Clothing for Australia
Hi ..all. I have a great opportunity to work in Brisbane for more than 18 months from around July this year. Will enable me to travel about and as such will buy a machine there.
Rather than start buying another set of gear for "down under" should I take my own leathers/jackets/trousers/boots and gloves etc....with me from UK. Though the gear is designed for UK weather [wet/cold]...is it worth taking or should I bite the bullet and buy appropriate gear for Aunstralian conditions.
I do understand my helmet wont meet the standards there.
safe riding...cheers

Hi Willy,
The leathers would be AOK for about two months of the year, but possibly too hot for most of the year. Textile jackets with removable liners works a lot better for me.
Regards,
Shane

In reality the mass produced bike gear is the same across the world, leathers maybe a little thicker in the Northern hemisphere than here, but I doubt it. There are a very few local leather manufacturers, next to no makers of wet weather or other riding gear in Oz - let alone around Brisbane - the market is too small.

Buy some mesh armoured gear and take your own helmet, it is your head, the cops would never pull any biker over and ask to see the DOT sticker.
As long as your current insurance covers you with your gear, no worries
I bought a helmet online from Germany and it has no sticker, does not concern me in the least
Cheers

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
