Hope to see you there for that event,Should be about halfway around my trip of Australia by then.
Started in Castlemain and followed the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide onto kangaroo Island, turned around then headed for Alice Springs via the " backroads " ( Wilpena Pound/Craddock/Blinman/etc etc ) after being marooned in several small towns surrounded by flooded plains had to reroute as i managed to time my trip with the freak monsoon season that hit the area.
Currently resting up in Alice Springs with a busted shoulder from my rather pathetic attempt at deep sand/mud riding on the way to Coober Pedy.
Setting off for Perth next week possibly Via Darwin....so with a bit of luck i will be able to get to the meeting in time.
Specialist subject for a talk.....how to do a massive trip with absolutely no preperation or planning at all or sand riding experience in one the worlds biggest desert continents.

Count me in.
What's the accomodation plan ? Do I need to "book" for my tent of just show up and pitch it wherever there's room (close to the pub of course )
Travelling from Melbourne in my Troopy so if anyone needs a lift, let me know.

accomodation for the meet
Here is a list of the accom that will be available ,
,the pub(Laurel Hotel) has very limited rooms but you need to tell them your there for the horizons meeting, the number is 02 60723541 and ask for KIM ,there is camping behind the pub (bikes only),but its first in best dressed ($2 a night) and will be limited ,so get there the earlier the better ,you can shower in the snowy creek or go around to the caravan park for a 2 buck shower or be a hard arse and go without
I have booked a guest house that sleeps about 10 and thats across the road from the hall and about 100 metres from the pub, this might suit some that know each other a bit better PM me about this one
The magorra caravan park has an amazing camp kitchen and has on site vans as well, phone Ted for bookings if you want a van, on 02 60723568 ,if camping he has stacks of room and its right on the mitta mitta river and 500ish metres from the pub
The witches garden is a great place and is 4 km away and would suit 4 couples at around $30 a head (well flash) if you want to impress the missus phone felicity on 60723533 or check out Witches Garden
grant has been flat out and will get registration open soon

Sounds good Dave. I'll just be camping so I'll either rock up at the back of the pub (if I get there early enough on the Friday) or down at the caravan park.

Giday, Had a great time at last years meeting. Planning to head down again, and wondered if any Alice Springs or Darwin riders are thinking the same thing ? Alice Springs is home for me and plan to get to this event and are seeking a travel buddy(s).

Oz HUBB, hope this is OK ...
giday Canoeguy,
Hope this is ok, read on...
A few months ago (Oct 08) I was visiting the Oz Touratech / Safari fuel tank guys out at Carboo (picking up my new 30L tank for my DR). I mentioned the HUBB meeting I attended in 2008. They showed some interest in this... So as I have continued buy gear through them over the past few months I have e-mailed Nicole on the info@touratech.com.au address about the Mitta Mitta meeting. Below is a copy of the e-mail I sent (if your interested) and sorry if this is unwanted. I did try to PM and or email but those avenues are not open to me at my lowly status.
Regards, Stephen Ashley,
Alice Springs, Outback Oz.
Giday Nicole,
Not sure if you know this (I’m guessing you do). But I thought I’d let you know about the planned (not by me) Horizons Unlimited HUBB meeting for Australia in March. Horizons as I’m sure you know is an Adventure Motorcycling get together (it is a low key event normally), this year its planned to be held at Mitta Mitta which is real close to you in Carboor. The organizers are looking for (sponsors) and events which you might like to run or contribute too, I’d guess you be also able to display/sell your products and or services. Anyhow details can be found at this web site :-
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/meetings
Details were not yet posted when I wrote this to you, but were in the HUBB section see below -
‘HUBB > events > HU travelers Meetings – Other parts of the world > Aussie Meeting At Mitta Mitta 2009’
But you will need to be signed up to get to this section.
I’m planning to take my DR650 on a ‘shake’ down ride to this event, so if you do decide to attend can you send me a message, as I was planning to call past Carboor on my way home on Monday 17th to say hi and thanks for your help over the past few months.

I think you can email .. but not PM ..
The difference is that your email address will be revielde to teh recipent ... not a great worry unless you are a spammer.
On the meetings .. if you are a presenter or an exhibitor there is a special registration page .. and more information to give some extra help/encoragement for those people. TK has been a presentor in the past so Tourateck OZ should be aware of the system..

Errr this is no UK meeting where so much happens you really need a schedule..
Not much happens untill friday afternoon night when talks start to take place... then you get more from 10 or 11 am Sat to late Sat night ..
If you want to nominate a time and duration for your talk .. do so .. saves the organiser trying to figure it all out .. and I'm certain you'd both be flexable..
Ride outs .. tend to happen ... usually between groups of people ...

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
