Smile Danny's Haggs Bank and HU Meet, Cumbria 20/21/22 September 2013

You all know Danny of "Danny and Fil's Roadkill Cookout" fame at the HU Ripley and Donington meets. Well, he has built/refurbished a lovely building and land into a bunkhouse and campsite at

Haggs Bank
Nentsbury
Cumbria
CA9 3LH

On the weekend of 21 and 22 September 2013, there'll be a HU event to mark the "official" opening of Haggs Bank.

It's also the weekend of the Beamish Trials event Home - BEAMISH TROPHY TRIAL that passes through his land.

Danny has told me of the great plans he has for the weekend and I'm sure he'll be along here shortly to tell you about them too.

It's a wonderful part of the world with superb riding.

Put it in your diary NOW!

More Information

Danny's still hard at work getting the bunkhouse refurbishment finished, so he's asked me to post this on his behalf so that everyone has the full run-down on his plans....

-------------
1st Haggs Bank Bunkhouse and Campsite HU Mini-Meet
20th-22nd September 2013

To celebrate the launch of Haggs Bank Bunkhouse and Campsite we will be hosting an activity meet (no presentations!) with loads of opportunities to get out and explore the North Pennines - England’s Last Wilderness.

Accommodation available on-site will be the bunkhouse and camping areas. Numbers are limited to 23 in the bunkhouse and 100 for camping.

Price for the Friday and Saturday night is:

£20pp for camping

£40pp in the bunkhouse, including all bedding (not towels!). The bunkhouse has 2 bunkrooms sleeping 9 and 14 both mixed in triple bunks. The bunkhouse also has a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, lounge and dining room.

The campsite is split into different areas. Some pitches are close to car parking in the woodland area and others are up in our wildflower meadow, but all are within easy access of the toilets and shower room.

For those booked into the bunkhouse for the weekend there is also the option of stopping the Thursday or Sunday night for an extra £10pppn. Alternatively if you’re one of the campers you can stop the Thursday and/or the Sunday night for an extra £5pppn.

Friday night will be time to chill out round the bonfire, ready for an activity packed Saturday.

Activities on offer:

- A local fully qualified activity instructor will be running a couple of trips to take small groups (5-10 people) down the local disused lead mine. There will be a 3 hour trip into Smallclegh Mine for £15pp or if you just fancy a taster he will also be running a 1 hour trip for £10pp. Safety helmets and lamps are provided but there’s a good chance you’ll get wet so you will need suitable footwear (wellies are ideal) and your scruffs!

- Trail rides to explore some of the local area and try out your handling skills– there will have limited space available and will be tailored to the ability of the people who sign up. So if you want to have a go please email us with the type of bike you’ve got and your experience so that the guide can plan the routes accordingly

- Road tours to enjoy the local scenery!

- Group walks exploring 2 local beauty spots one natural, a pretty waterfall you can walk behind Ashgill Force and one manmade, Epiacum, described as the best preserved fort in the Roman Empire!

- Discounted entry to nearby Killhope Mine, an interpretative former lead mine;

- Cycle hire easily organised through North Pennine Cycles in nearby Nenthead and maps available of local cycle routes.

Unfortunately we aren’t able to offer food on-site, but we have arranged that the local pub, The Miners Arms in Nenthead, will be offering food.

Saturday night we’ll be having live music onsite from Sleeping Dogs, a great local rock band, a bonfire again and just the usual party atmosphere!

Sunday morning we‘ll all have the chance to watch part of the Beamish Trophy Trial which runs up the side of the site.

And remember if you’re coming from the South you’ll have to travel up the famous Hartside Pass to get to us!
-------------

A new website for Haggs Bank will be going live soon, but in the meantime you can contact Danny to book your place at the mini-meet by calling 01434 382486 or emailing info@haggsbank.com

We will be there for the mini meet. Nice easy run up from the Hull ferry at the end of our holidays to someplace not yet decided. The other bonus is its a local holiday in Aberdeen and I am off on the Monday so get the extra day to recover, after all its not often you get a mini meet and a birthday on the same weekend.
Counting down the days

Sounds fab! I picked up a leaflet at the HU weekend.
Odd question - is there a decent phone signal?
I wouldn't normally be bothered but I'm on-call that weekend & am expected to answer the phone if issues are raised.

Hi Elaine

Iain's been working up there for the last four weeks and I've never had an issue getting hold of him on the phone.

See you there!

Me and Iain will be there - can't wait - it's going to be a fab weekend!

I was up there last weekend and spent the afternoon just wandering around in the pasture, taking pictures of wild flowers and just chilling. It's such a peaceful place.

See you soon.

Gutted we can't make it - looks as if we will be out of the country. A huge shame!!!!!! Sorry Danny a real bummer, but I'll help spread the word. I hope you have an amazing opening. After all the work you've put in I think people are going to be amazed at the quality of what you have created. Wish you all the best for it, and if our plans change we'll be there like a shot!

Excellent! If I don't need the pigeons, perhaps we can put them on the BBQ

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
