Anybody Up For Central Asia in 2010
We are a couple of ADV riders who plan to ride through Central Asia during the Summer of 2010.
We plan to visit the following countries:
Turkey
Iran (Yes Iran, visa’s permitting)
Turkmenistan
Uzbekistan
Tajikistan
Kyrgyzstan
Kazakhstan
Mongolia
And Russia (Siberia)
Going back via: TBD
Total ride duration is estimated at 3 months, but who knows, we need to be flexible. We plan on leaving around May 2010.
We plan to ride 650’s, a KLR and a Dakar. We are thinking of a group limit of 4 or 5.
It would be great to have a couple more ADV rivers join us. If you have a (huge) sense of adventure, are flexible in dealing with difficult situations and the unexpected, have spend some time across the US border (besides the Canadian one), don’t mind riding on (very) bad roads, have this need to go do something, and you know you want and can do this then contact us.
It would also be wonderful to connect with riders who live along the way. We’d love to hear from anybody who has advice, info, GPS tracks or waypoints, etc….

great group of people
I've been waiting to hear the 2010 roll-call. Strangely, most of the (european) people I met travelling through Africain 2008 were people I met through Horizons Unlimited so this network really works.

I am planning a trip to the stans and start at 7 may from Netherlands.
the first plans was also Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan but just for the last it is a big problem to get the visa. For Turkmenistan it is only possible to get visa when you book a guided tour, that is not my cup of tea.....
So i changed the plan to go via Ukraina and Russia, then entering kazachstan and go to Uzbekistan via Bejneu.
After Uzbekistan comes Tjatzikistan (Pamir) and Kyrgistan and back to Kazachstan, from Almaty I go back via the M32 (I have only 6 weeks)

Well, maybe we can hook up en dan kan ik ook nog eens wat Nederlands praten. Let's stay in touch and see how much our travel plans can overlap.

update of our plans
There are 3 in our group, departing from Germany early May - Turkey - Stans - Mongolia - Germany. We plan to return September 1. All 3 of us now have all of our visa's. 2 of us started middle of December and we have needed all of this time to get our visa's. Tom started later, but he went the expedited route and has everything together. We are going thru Turkemistan with StanTours. We chickened out on getting a transit visa in Baku. David at Stantours is now in charge of our Turkemistan destiny. We can only hope that the boat departure will not get delayed with a guide waiting on the other side on our nickel.
The bikes are on the boat to Antwerp / Heidelberg where we will pick them up.
The to-do list is getting shorther some days and other days I am adding things to do quicker then I can work them off. Oh-well, when it is time to go to the airport then nothing matters anymore.
This is roughly what our plans look like:
Germany - Turkey 5/5 - 6/6
Georgia - Azer: - 6/12
Turk - Uzbek: - 6/25
Tajik - Kyrg: - 7/18
Kazak/Russia: - 7/29
Mongolia: - 8/19
Russia - Germany: 9/1
We are already short on time, too much to see, not enough time.
9 more day on the job and then I am done, I'll be another unemployed. Can't wait.
Hope to see some of you on the road, when you see 2 Dakars and and DR it is us.

I leave ireland from the HU meet on 28-30th May. I'll head to London and sort visas and then hit Calais to trek it over through Europe for the end of June. Meeting Cappo Sakke and the boys in Russia and riding to siberia, down into Mongolia and back home through Kaz etc. Will no doubt see you along the way at some point. I'm on a BMW800GS. Like you, I return to stand amongst the ranks of the unemployed

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
