Angry need parts in kazakhstan or novosibirsk russia

hi, pottering around kazakhstan at the minute, currently in qostanay on the way to oz and have a few problems we need advise for. firstly, i ran over some wire yesturday and it rapped round the back wheel and some how sheered my rear brake caliper bracket and lost the slider, and secondly we have bought some spare rear tyres with us but no fronts. always thought the rule of thumb was one front for every two rears but seems thats not the case. been running a road tyre on the front and an mt21 on the rear for about a thousand miles or so. by the way, the mt21 rear is excellant, well recommended.
so can anyone recommend where we can get a new rear brake bracket for an 89 3aj and 3 sets of 21 inch front tyres from before we hit mongolia.
alternativley has anyone ever dhl'd parts to that area, can you use a post office to send the items to or is the best way to send them to a hotel.
any help would be great.

thanx

In Almaty you would find tyres at the Yamaha dealer, they can be pricey and you take what they have, not neccesarily what you want. There is also the Bike club with no name behind the "hilton" or some other flash hotel. It has an old bike on the roof. The guys there should be able to help you out with a fix, any local biker will know of it.

In Novosibirsk NBS bikes are great, they have good mechanics, great workshop and import Jap bikes second hand. They should be able to help out.

Hi, if your still in Qostanay try a garage at 95 Abay, it's a car place but does bikes aswell. Ask for Roman, he is the motocross champion of Kazakhstan and runs a motocross club so just maybe he may be able to help with the tires. He can't speak much English but he helped me As for the brake caliper I saw a 3aj in the club/garage mentioned above in Almaty, maybe it's still there and maybe they will sell parts you can contact the silk off road club to find the place.
As far as DHL is concerned I had to have some parts sent and was in Qostanay at the time. They refused to send them there and I had to go to Almaty but when the parts turned up (I was collecting from the office) all sorts of mystery charges turned up and it took a kick up the backside from a head office in europe to stop it all. My advice would be to use another courier if possible

Cheers Fish.

P.S. Tell Roman Neil sent you.

Smile thanks lads

as i had just finished righting the last post, roman and the local bike club found us in the internet cafe, what are the chances of that eh! ended up supplying us with 3 front tyres and one of his mates who's an alley welder kind of fabricated and welded parts to what is left of the old bracket and after about 12 hours work the job is done, didn't even want paying. gonna go and buy a few s for the boys that did the work though.
thanks for your replys, theres always someone on the hubb to get you out of trouble.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
