We are back to work after two years away and would rather see our beloved truck on expedition again than gathering dust waiting for our next trip.

The base vehicle is a 1995 ex-army 4x4 Leyland Daf 45/150 whose wheelbase has been stretched to create an extra metre of space. The fuel tank has a capacity of 300 litres.

The motorhome conversion, completed in late 2011, was by a specialist company and was done to a high specification with the emphasis on comfort and space.

The interior, which is finished in wood veneer, has a large fixed bed in a curtained-off area, a spacious bathroom with an electric flush ceramic toilet, wash-basin and shower and a good-sized kitchen/dining area with Corian surfaces, a sink, a Waeco compressor fridge/freezer, a gas hob and oven, a microwave and a TV/DVD.

Power is provided by four leisure batteries and a Dometic diesel generator (cost £6,000 new). The cabin is cooled by a Dometic air conditioner and warmed by an Eberspacher diesel heater which also heats the water in a 40 litre calorifier. The cold water tank holds 200 litres and there is a good-sized grey water tank.

The vehicle cost more than £60K when first converted. We are awaiting estimates from a commercial garage to bring the vehicle back to its original condition (after two years on the road). The price then will be £43,000. However, we would consider a lower offer before that work is undertaken.
