I know its quite a hasle to get part or to find a nice bike shop in Tbilisi but there is one guy that can solve all your problems.

His name is Niko. He speaks perfect english and Russian and also knows everything about Georgia and can organize great tours..

Hi, I agree 100%!! Niko has helped me out several times and is a good friend also. He is honest, fair and extremely helpful. And his perfect english is a great help if you dont speak russian

He has a small garage and has worked with KTM's and other bikes for a long time, so he knows what hes doing.

So if you need a good mechanic, someone to find spareparts for you, a guide or a riding partner in Georgia, dont hesitate to call or write him. Hes based in Tbilisi and rides a KTM himself.

I'll be in Tblisi in a couple of days' time - and my Honda Transalp desperately need some work carried out on it.

Nico sounds just like the man I need. I have sent him an e-mail, but still await his reply.

Question is, which part of the city does Nico hang out? (some co-ords would be brill .. ) I'll then book some accommodation nearby.

I called him last month when i was in Tbilisi and didnt work out. The address he gave me (mentioned above) sends you close but not exactly there.. (and my internet here is too slow to check it online) but you'll see a bridge and before that bridge on the left and right there are some small garage boxes which are converted in 20 or so small garages. They know him as "Nika" if i heard correctly but as said, i didnt actually met him but was given someones box to do all the work myself (just maintainance etc so cant comment on the skills around there). If i have better internet (smarkand now) ill try to give coordinates if keith obv cant just get them at the spot.

my fellow travellers and I just did oil change at Niko (KTM and 2 BMW GS). All good and fast (1/2 day and everything was ready, including tyre change).

The coordinates are correct, we found Nicka by them. He has problem with it's internet at the moment, so better to give him a call.

Tipp: Oilfilters may be difficult to find in Georgia, so bring your own or send them to Niko (you get his address from him). Also near to his garage is a big street with car supplies, where you can find the right oil, but Niko can also buy it for you.

I just spent some days hanging out with Nico. He helped me with a few minor issues on my bike then we spent some time riding together in Western Georgia. Very good guy. He asked if I would post on the Hubb that it is best to contact him directly by phone, not by email since he no longer has internet at his home. His phone number is 574304010. Below are coordinates to a small garage where he works from. You turn down a little alley and there is a row of small garages, his is the 4th one I think. Tell him Jordan says hello.

I got Niko's number last week from this thread and contacted him. He helped me with a lot of useful advice and information, and an oil change in his garage. Then, two days ago he dug me out of a big hole. I fried the clutch on my DR650 on a dirt road north-east of Tblisi and got picked up by a Ukranian truckie. I called Niko. He made arrangements to meet the truckie (in Russian) along his route. Once we had hooked up, he recruited the help of a couple of guys in a nearby garage to offload the bike, checked over the bike and then rang several of his contacts to get the cheapest price for a van. The van driver took the DR to Niko's garage then took me to a hostel I knew. Niko organised everything. When the new clutch arrives in a few days, he will fit that for me, too.

He also took me on an awesome two-day off-road ride to Omalo over the Abano pass, the highest in the Caucasus. I'm riding solo and would never have done anything like that alone. He organised food and accommodation, and bargained for the best prices (in Georgian). All he asked for was expenses (I gave him what I thought it was worth, though. You can't put a price on this kind of help and support). Love the guy. He's amazing.

Almost no one in Georgia rides motorcycles (or scoots or mopeds) so good mechanics are rare. Guys like Niko are even rarer.

His name is pronounced 'Nika'. (I have just enough Russian to know that 'o' is often pronounced like an English 'a'.)

I'd like to add my recent experiences to this thread. First of all, thanks Jordan for the referral.
I limped into Tbilisi on Friday with a rear shock that had no remaining dampening whatsoever. I got in touch with Niko and we started looking at the issue on Saturday. It was not easy and it took us 3 days in the end to get it fixed (or at least I hope this will prove a permanent fix). But it did take some creative engineering and a bit of discussions between the 2 of us.
I can only say that Niko is a very friendly guy, and an honest mechanic that works meticulously and understands very well what he is doing.
