RTW, first step: Italy and the alps

Dear all:

some may have read about our plans of doing a RTW trip with my girlfriend in a KLR650:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...fo-about-76844
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...re-parts-74543
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...rtw-trip-73070
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...put-bike-76340

here our plan:
Voy y Vuelvo en Moto: La Ruta en Moto alrededor del Mundo

So now we are heading to South of Germany, Austria, Check Republic, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia... then Russia.

We already took a ferry from Barcelona to a port near Rome, we didn't have time to check all the equipment before departing and the bike was too too heavy, even the rear tire had a "burning rubber smell" after some Kms in the highway in Italy, so in Rome we changed the heavy aluminium panniers for soft ones, and we send a package to some friend in Spain with the spare drive train (chain and sprockets), with the lighter bike we rode without problems from Rome to Winterthur (near Zurich), tomorrow we ride to Germany or Austria.

But the bike is still not at easy with the weight, so yesterday we bought better springs for the rear and front suspensions (in USA, online shopping).
We hope to change them before getting into Russia. We will look for a help exchange meanwhile we wait for the parts, the idea is to let time pass and do not spend money. and do not deviate too much from our original plan, as we are in a hurry to cross Russia before autumn.

And everybody here loves our huge Safary Tank and our Chilean number plate

Here some pics:

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
