Fuel in SE Libya
There is a fuel station in Tazerbo, but whether they have fuel or not is a hit and miss thing. However it is a reasonably large place, so your guide should be able to hunt up some fuel if the situation is desperate.
As far as I know there is still no fuel station in Rebiana, possibly it can be obtained in limited quantities from locals, but I would plan on having enough for the Kufra - Tazerbo stretch. The Tazerbo - Timsah stretch is completely without fuel (Wau Kebir is just a name on the map... there used to be a military base there during the Chad war, but now it is practically abandoned), you need to have enough for around 800-900 kilometres depending on the route. If you go via Bir Maaruf it is hard piste for most of the way (soft sand for about 50 kms only when leaving Tazerbo) so consumption will be moderate.
I have not done the Rebiana - Wau Namus direct stretch myself, but looking on the map the detour to Tazerbo pretty much negates the benefit of being able to pick up extra fuel, you should be able to stock up in Kufra for the full route. Most probably you will need an extra vehicle for the guide/policeman anyway, try renting a pickup that can carry fuel in drums, more practical than jerrycans.
NOTE: most of this information is 4 years old, things can change there for better or worse pretty fast. Perhaps Budrinna can update us ?

The problem today is not to find fuel in Rebiana ,Tazerbo and Wau Kebir that are now refuelled quite weekly but to have the permit to be refuelled at their pumps. Without it and if the trip is not duly registered and authorized serious troubles occurs both to the travellers that must advice their embassy in Libya of their presence and to the local agency/guide that don’t fulfil the procedure now requested. Difficult , at the time to have a permit as tourist purpose.
Time has much changed , travelling in the area is now easy but not free as the control is increased to stop illegal traffic going to the coast. Waw is still an operating military zone ,all Dohone area is 100% prohibited. and the mine’s maps normally reported in most of forums are to be considered not reliable, most of mines that could have recently laid are also of counter type.
All good agencies know all of above and will not go or take travellers without observing the procedure as time of free travelling are really changed and cost highly increased .
Cheers with Mirinda

I cannot fully agree Budrinna's statement but neither for Tazerbo, Kufra nor WeK and particularily not Rebiana you can count on fuel available.
For WeK it depends on the goodwill of the military to give you some fuel. You cannot insist on it nor can you buy it. The agricultural project does normally not provide fuel. Maybe you are lucky, maybe you have to wait for a certain time.
Tazerbo / Kufra have fuel stations which are very often closed for several days. The locals are waiting in long queues and you can imagine, ho happy they are if tourists arive and tell them, that their trip shall have a priority ;-)
Rebiana has a fuel station. It is supplied from Kufra. Do not count on it!
-----
My advice:
Take fuel with you to "jump" at least one place! If you don't find fuel in TAZERBO, drive East for about 100kms on the asphalt to BIR ZIGHEN. If there is no fuel either; you may have the chance to get som (Diesel) from the big trucks.

Due to recent ikrar (local laws) some areas of south Libya could be closed for tourists, those includes , afte,r of course Sarir Tibesti and Dohone the Ramlat Rabianah , Murzuk sand sea (south) Gatrun and others. Cheek well with agencies also for Ewainat area.

Surely we think that you mean “ Good news “ mr. Roro
As said in our previous reply the benefits of the Gov’s attention devolved in the south area of Splaj have been already noticed and appreciated by the last tourist of august as they started to use the tarmac recently built or under construction in all the south area and get also the opportunity of easy refuelling in the rebuilt petrol station in Tazerbu . Rebiana will follow soon.
Tazerbu , Rebiana ,Kufra are historical oasis and must be now easily reached by most of the tourists with less cost and risks and not only by few specialized sand travellers .
We suggest so to ask &cheek clearly with the agencies before submitting travel itineraries going to south without a correct and approved program .
