Transit visa for Libya

Can anyone advise if it is likely a Libya transit visa would be issued in Tunis for someone ( I have a UK passport) without their own vehicle or bicycle ?
I want to travel independently through Libya from Tunisia to Egypt and this looks like the only possible way to do this without the expense of a guide etc.

Hi tim123.
try to contact Libyan embassy in Tunisia for that, otherwise you have to apply for visa through Libyan travel agancy, which means (according to official rules) you need to be fully guided, and package price will be required for such as services (privete car, guide, invitation & visa fees ....etc).

Red face very happy!

Hadi is an operator (as he puts on his signature) and is very good - that's my opinion anyway!

Going through Lybia at beginning of March 07

Hello,

I am crossing Lybia (from Tunisia to Egypt) at the beginning of March 07 and am looking for people to share the costs (anyone interested, tell me - I even have a small place in my Citroen 2CV).
But which costs ?
It seems that it is possible to cross without a guide.
As anybody done this yet ?
How ?

Thank you for any answer.

Etienne

a little later

Dear Etienne,

We will be entering Libya from Tunisia on the lunchtime/afternoon of the 14th. We head south from Tripoli, but it might help get you started.

Contact me directly if of interest.

I am booking a return flight from Bamako to Europe at the moment, and noticed some of the cheapest fares are with Afriqiyah air through Tripoli. But will I need a visa just to fly trhough? if so, can I get it at the airport?

don't worry

If your ticket is Bamako-Europe then you don't need a visa. Even if there is a long stopover the airline is required to make the necessary arrangements ('locking' you in your hotel if required).

I just wanted to post a confirmation that a French citizen travelling overland was issued a transit visa within 10 days via the Libyan Consulate in Tunis. They submitted a request for the visa letter in Arabic to the consulate with two passport photos, and basically followed the same recipe that LandyGirl posted in the HUBB a while back. This transit visa did not require a guide but did require the recipient of the visa to process the formalities at the border himself.
I myself, left Tunis after about a weeks wait as I thought it highly unlikely that they would issue an American a transit visa, despite my efforts.
Hope this helps.
And for those trying to do this again. You can find the Libyan consulate next to the shopping center Colisee Solaire. Bus number 51 drops you off next to the shopping center.
Hope this helps.
