Help Required-bmw F650gs Stolen In Brasil

We are travelling around South America on two BMW F650 GSs and are currently in a small sea side resort in Brasil called Imbituba (100km south of Florianopolis). Last night one of our bikes was stolen from the garage of the hostal we are staying at.

If anyone out there is in the area and sees a black F650 GS, number plate LD04FNK (probably changed), maybe still with pannier racks and Hepco and Becker top box and with lots of Duck Tape holding the screen and indicators together then it is probably ours. Please report to the police.

Please pass this on to anyone you know travelling in Brasil and all the Brasil bikers communities.

Many thanks,

Maria and Alistair

Maria,

Sorry to learn of your bad luck. We were around Florinopolis last month and spent time with a local Moto Club there - they maybe able to help put the word around. Try the "Toupeiras" Moto Club Tel: (48) 9998-9885 or e-mail Jean: jvmax (at) ibestvip (dot) com (dot) br

Hope this is of some help and the best of luck recovering your bike.

Hame & Em

¿Is there a bright side?

Maria,
Sorry to hear that. It was your bike, with all the ducttape. I hope you maybe get it back, but then again, a part of me says you weren't really wedded to that bike, maybe instead of that Antarctica Cruise (Alistair still gets to go!), you get to try out that "smaller bike is better" thought and maybe this is your silver purse, or whatever it is you get when shit happens for a reason. And the adventure goes on.

Good luck on the recovery of the bike. Having something to trade in is a much better route to a new bike.

Can't wait to see what you´re riding in Viedma.

Hi Maria

I am very upset for your loss of the bike.

Just to inform that I have contacted Julio in Ciudad del Este Paraguay on the slim chance someone tries to sell the bike intact there. It is unlikely a bike like this would be ridden around without him knowing about it, the community is so small. Just maybe.

good luck. If you find out who the thief is, my friend in Florionopolis trains police dogs and they could probably use a run around.

The journey continue!

Hi and thanks to everyone posting here or who sent me an email and /or offer of supports. I really appreciate! Believe me!

I will reply to all emails in the next few days (shitty local internet connections permitting!) .
Here is the situation: the bike is still missing and the police + military police that control the roads are on the look out. Apparently they have some pists!

I try to keep hopeful. BUT no matter what, the trip continue! We will not let a bloody scumbag ruins my dream trip, the trip of a life time!

We still have the Dakar. We need to get rid of a lot of stuff if we are to continue on one bike but we will get sorted in Buenos Aires. If my bike is lost or beyond repairs we will see in BAs.
Maybe buy a little bike if it possible to do or continue 2 up. My driving licence and international driving licence and the temporary import document of both bikes were also stolen (was in the top box!) I know it is stupid to leave them there but I´m kicking myself a lot for that!

So we have some paper work to sort there too. Anyone who can help especially regarding lost import docs is most welcome to contact us!

We will get to Viedma and we will get to Ushuaia for Xmas, the journey continue. Hell it would continue even if I had to end on a bloody skateboard to get there! No one, nothing will stop us!

We have contacted the local newspapers and 2 are running articles on us so taht should be good publicity hopefully! We are also trying regional TVs.

Maria - if you are yours are still aiming to get to BsAs some time in November, give me a shout. There´s a consolation drink on offer!

(Making a mental note to retrieve travel documents from top box in supposedly secure hotel car park in La Serena, Chile!)

Best of luck getting everything sorted.

That is the real travel spirit !!!
Don't let anyone ruin your dream.

I realy hope they will get the punks that stole your bike and put them for a long time in some South American jail and that you get your bike back.

Good luck with the next part of your trip.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
