Rio Grande, Tierra Del Fuego
Please, any biker riding through Rio Grande, stop in at the Hotel Argentino and tell Graciella a worshipful hullo and Happy Christmas from the fat old Brit. She and her friends cared for me when the truck broke my leg. Pepe Gomez, a one legged orthopedic surgeon, put the leg in plaster in the hotel kitchen (Pepe lost his leg on a Triumph Bonneville). Five weeks later he cut the plaster loose and I was on my way.
Also, if anyone is flying that way and could deliver a book (it contains a dedication to Graciella) I would be immensely grateful. The postal service is a zero!
Greeting to you all, Happy Christmas, a great New Year, ride safe, and may all your falls be gentle,
simon

Cerrado!
Hi Simon
Sorry to be a Jonah, but I think Hostel Argentino is now closed. When I was there in January Graciela showed me the plans for the pub she was having built (and your wheelchair!). She said it was her dream to own one. It's only a stone's throw from San Martin 64 on a new plot at the end of the sea front road. Maybe someone in that neck of the woods can update us?
Regards, Mick
p.s. Any more signings coming up? I intended coming last Saturday but was prevented by the lurgy!

Not sure of current status but it was indeed still open late June '08.

I passed by a few days ago. Didn't knock but appeared open. I think she's supposed to close end of this month.

Me and umm.. 6 or 7 other bikers stayed there the last night they were open and allowing guests. Graciellla's was super nice and it was quite an emotional day for her.
Too bad I didn't get your message until today as that was last week some time.
So to be clear, Hostel Argentino is now closed. I *think* i understood her plans to open another place down the road eventually. Or maybe she was opening a kiosk. The whole conversation was in spanish and I was already a bit drunk.

Graciela is a saint. She has been planning a tea house or something (changes every few weeks) for some years. What ever she does will be joyful.
Yeah, I'll be at the Ace on Feb 8, signing books and giving a SHORT presentation. I'll bring a photograph of Pepe Gonzalez setting my leg in the kitchen at Graciela's. Great to meet up....

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
