Smile Where's the Big Hand?

Hi,

We'll be travelling through South America this year and would like to know the whereabouts of the giant carved hand so often seen in pics taken by travellers.

Thanks in advance

Talking Its pointing to 10 past!!!

....and the little hand is pointing to 3, so I guess it's 10 past 3

For my part I think everyone should give you a big hand for doing your trip

and last but not least, after a lot os searching, (I was suprised at how much!!) I found a Wikkipedia entry:-

The Mano de Desierto is a large-scale sculpture of a hand located in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

[edit] Description

The sculpture was constructed by the Chilean sculptor Mario Irarrázabal at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level. The work has a base of iron and cement, and stands 11 meters tall.
Funded by a local booster organization called Corporación Pro Antofagasta, the sculpture was inaugurated on March 28, 1992. It has since become a point of interest for tourists travelling Route 5, which forms part of the Panamerican Highway

Mano del Desierto.

[edit] Access

The sculpture is located 75 kilometers to the south of Antofagasta, and 300 meters from the side of northbound Route 5, the highway by which it is accessible. The nearest point of reference is the "Cuidad Empresarial La Negra" (Business City La Negra).
From Antofagasta, one can take Route 26 or Route 28, both of which connect to Route 5.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
