Shooting incident at Quetta
In May of this year, 5 Russians were shot dead at a checkpoint on the outskirts of Quetta. I hadn't heard anything about it at the time but saw this just today.
BBC News - Pakistan police sacked over Russians killed near Quetta
The Kharotabad Incident - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They weren't overlanders in the HUBB sense, but they WERE traveling and the incident may even have happened at the same checkpoint that overlanders pass through and that's why I have posted this here.

Interesting, I live in Moscow and did not hear anything about this. Not a very pretty story.

Not surprising - the Russian media suppressed it - Kharotabad killings and the cover up - Features - Al Jazeera English

I was in Pakistan in May and didnt hear about it.... It was indeed covered up. But despite my motorcycle breaking down in Quetta - i felt completely safe in Pakistan at all times. The headache didnt really start until Iran!
And im a girl travelling alone....

This unfortunate incidence was the main news in Pakistan for sometime. I also remember hearing it on international news channels too. This shows the extreme jitteriness on part of the law enforcements agencies in these confusing times and war. They had information of an infiltrated family of suicide bombers.
There was tremendous response to this atrocity resulting in many officers going to jail.
However let me make 2 corrections/elaborations,
This didnt happen near Quetta but near the volatile Afghan border.
The victim was a Chechen family.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
