Travel- India to Europe driving a car

Hello

I am new to this forum and have a few Q's.

Is is possible to buy a car in India and drive back to Europe?

How do you get hold of a Carnet de Passage and does one need one to enter Pakistan/Iran/Turkey? Of course on Inidan number plates!

How do the people who buy Royal Enfields handle this?

many thanks

The answers you are seeking are all there for you to read in existing posts. For starters, look on your left under Planning>Paperwork>Carnet. You will see that this is not possible. Try buying in Nepal instead.

A carnet is required until Turkey.

Indian registered vehicles are not allowed in Pakistan. A few Enfields who managed till Europe started their jouneys in Dubai where they reached by sea.
However cars registered at any other place can be brought to Pakistan with carnet. Nepal is a good option as any other European country.

These might be exceptional cases although country of registration isnt mentioned.
When I inquired if there was any situation I could take my car to India, they replied only if I become a member of Pakistani High Commision. Not a likely possibility.

Well, from looking at the pics of the car, it does appear to have an Indian numberplate. It was bought new in Calcutta before starting the trip, so it is difficult to imagine what other numberplate it could have had. Maybe there are special rules for foreigners.

Am not sure the prohibition on Indian-registered vehicles in Pakistan is a complete one in any case:-
Delhi–Lahore Bus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not only that, when I bought my Indian insurance in Amritsar I had the option to pay extra to extend cover to Nepal, Bangladesh and - wait for it - Pakistan!

But Pakistani-registered pigeons (yes, really!) are NOT allowed in India:-

Interesting also about Pakistani vehicles not being allowed in India unless they are government ones:-

You're right its not an absolute prohibition but certainly very difficult.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
