visa Sudan at border?
Hi all,
Is it possible to get the Sudan visa at the border from Ethiopia?
I am in Nairobi now, waiting for my passport to come back from Holland with the Ethiopian visa (it is absolutely impossible to get it here in Kenia), so might as well go to the Sudanese embassy here to apply.
Cheers from Nairobi,
Gee

Not at the El Gedaref border. Your best bet would be to try in Addis - they were pretty friendly there.

Hi Gee
I'd try Nairobi first. We got it in 24 hours (albeit a couple of years ago). There used to be a checklist of what was required on the notice board at JJs - eg letter from your embassy etc.
At the time it was also possible to get it in Addis but the downside was you had to get your Egyptian visa first in order to get the Sudanese visa. However, the Egyptian visa doesn't need to be arranged in advance if you take the Lake Nasser ferry, you just pay over $15 on the boat and get a stamp. In other words if you can get it in Nairobi you save yourself a day chasing an Egyptian visa unnecessarily.
Good luck.

Sudan visa in Nairobi
Hi all,
Applied for the visa in Nairobi. These are the requirements:
1. two application forms
2. two passport size photos (with clear background)
3. valid passport (maximum six months validity)
4. copy of passport
5. cover letter / letter of invitation
6. letter from your own embassy
7. copy of credit card
8. copy of carnet if traveling overland
I got my letter of invitation from Guesthouse Bougainvilla in Khartoum. They responded within a day with the letter attached in the mail!
The Dutch embassies do not issue letter of recommendation. However, they do issue a letter saying that they don't, addressed to the Sudanese embassy. This was sufficient (!?)
Processing time is 3 to 4 days. They close at 12.00. I handed in my documents on Friday morning, and pick-up is Tuesday 15.00
US citizens can not get a visa for Sudan, at least not here in Nairobi.
Cheers from Nairobi,
Gee

Hi Gee,
Thanks for the update! Just one tiny little correction - but it might save some travellers from a heart attack
The passport must have a minimum (not a maximum) validity of six months.
Greetings and safe travels,
Achim

Hi Achim,
Thanks for the correction!
Funny though, "maximum" is exactly what it says on the Sudanese embassy's paper, and I just copied the text literally. Which only goes to show….
Cheers,
Gee
