Smile Anyone in Portsmouth??

Dear All
A different type of request for help (none for seven years and then two in one week - so bear with me on this one please!)
There are two Korean women going around the world on Honda scooters (or at least I think they are Honda's - no doubt someone will spot exactly what bikes they are).
they have a great route planned, take a look at the map on their website
̹ α :: Ʈ Ʈ

I know the website looks like nonsense on this page, but click it and it will take you to their stuff- it's in Korean but the computer can translate it.
Friends of mine bumped into them in Vladivostock and travelled with them for a while as they crossed Siberia. They are now in Europe and are heading to the UK from Spain.
So I've invited them to stay and for Christmas at my parents they have no idea what to expect)

I know " get to the point Tiff!"
their ferry from Santander arrives in Portsmouth at 4.30pm on 23rd December, although they are intrepid travellers, quite rightly they are a bit unsure about riding in the dark to reach me in Lands End and will be riding on the left for the first time
I'm trying to find out if there are any kind-hearted HUBBers in the Portsmouth area who might be able to put them up for the night - they have been roughing it on their trip and a bit of floor space is fine with them.

Here's hoping

If no-one else from HU comes forward I'll ask at work. We (Vanessa's out, but I'm sure would agree) would have been keen to offer if they were arriving a week earlier but we will already have gone up North for Xmas by the 23rd.

That will be great if you can spread the word Mustaphapint - c'mon, you must have a real name?!

I don't know what size engines their scooters have, but that's quite a long ride to get to you on Xmas eve, especially if it's bad weather.
I'll do my best to try find them a bed for the night they arrive.
Paul (there! are you any wiser now? )

Have you tried any local HU Communities? Also in the Europe section on ADVrider? Adventurebikerider.com? XRV.org.uk? The 2 BMW gs sites?

cheers

I can't help directly. It's a bit far.

Do make them aware that if travelling west on 25th December in UK, finding fuel stations open at regular intervals could be a bit of a challenge if their range is limited.

Hey Tiffany,

If nobody nearer can help them direct (I'm in London) I'll ride down and meet them, sort them a hotel, take them there, and also make sure they're OK for fuel for the next day to get to you as Tony is spot on re garages and Christmas day.

And yes, I have now remembered
my Hubb password!

There is a travelodge right next to the ferry terminal in Portsmouth. If it's a hotel they are after that would be the most convenient.
It's no 1 on the link below

Hey Chris
thanks for those suggestions, they are my next step. For something like this, I think the HUBB is the natural starting point as so many here are travellers themselves and don't think it's unusual to open your house up to complete strangers! especially if they arrive on motorbikes.
...says the woman who let a stray Armenian cyclist share her pitifully small tent somewhere in Siberia (but that's another story)

Hi Tiff,
Having just cicumnavigated the world , i met loads of firendly people who gave us a roof and food, the HUbb helped a lot, now to repay the kindness.
I live in the Midlands UK , but like Belle i am more than willing to go down and meet the ferry and escort them to where ever they like and make sure they arrive safe . I can carry extra fuel and would be willing to use my card at the auto pumps , so that should'nt be a problem.
It will be around 250 miles (if they can use the motorways ?)
If they decide to travel to the Midlands ( Stratford upon Avon, Coventry) I would be more than willing to provide them with a room .
I shall also repost on the ABR site

Thumbs up Such Generosity

Wow guys
thanks so much for the offers of help, though you have been pipped at the post by an earlier PM I got from Mustaphapint Paul who has "volunteered" a friend of his!
I've been in touch with her and I think we have got things sorted out- however if it does fall through I'll let you know.

The Korean Scooter girls are planning to be in the UK for a few months so any other offers of hospitality will probably be gratefully received.
I'm hoping to persuade them to come to the HU Cornwall meet in February, I'd like to see them green laning with Rossi

Once again, thanks to you all for the offers of help.

Hi Tiff,

If they want to come to East Anglia, and see Cambridge and Ely, possibly Norwich, then please drop me a pm. I am 16 miles from Cambridge.

I can put them up for a few days If I double check with my landlord.

Thanks

Fern

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
