BUT the basic rules of polite and civil conduct which everyone agreed to when signing up for the HUBB, will still apply, though moderation will be a LITTLE looser than elsewhere on the HUBB.

RAC CdP rip-off. Please sign the petition

I just signed the petition "European Commission: Break the Monopoly, Treat Travellers Better - RAC Carnet" on Change.org.

It's important. Will you sign it too?

Here's the link:

Well that's the problem Bernard: Most of those 300 will also go on the HUBB and are actually affected by the situation. We're such a niche pastime and many UK people who ride/drive touring type bikes/cars don't go anywhere where a CdP is required, so don't feel they need to sign the petition.

You have a positive reputation/ are an opinion leader on ABR: Could you put a thread over there too? Some might sign up via there too...

Every non-Brit CdP user isn't being right royally shafted because either their own automobile association is reasonable when issuing a CdP or supply a letter of no-objection to another (reasonable) association to do it instead.

I suggest that all UK-based motorists who have RAC breakdown/recovery policies choose a different organisation like the AA/Green Flag/etc. when their renewal is due.

done - > a while back I started a thread to write to our euro MP's about this and the EU regarding it's anti competitive practices too. They don't don't care sadly but we need to keep on trying!

As an early adopter I signed when it was a post in the trip paperwork section and only about 50 people, but a quick glance at the petition site now shows 375 supporters out of the 500 required. What happens when it gets to 500 - fireworks and a gold ribbon round the printed out petition or something?

I've no idea if the majority are pennyless bikers trying to eke out a beeer money budget or plutocrats in 4x4s looking for social justice but does anyone know if there's a similar level of support on the Landie or TLC sites?

I've signed it and I drive a 4x4. My truck probably cost less than the kit from Ann Summers latest Leather & Bondage catalogue you wear.

Just try to remember this site caters for all overland travellers and be a little more thoughtful on your next post

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
