For Sale 2004 Honda XR650L. Colombia. Available in February 2019
For Sale 2004 Honda XR650L. Colombia. Available in February 2019
For Sale, the superb Engelberta, a 2004 Honda XR650L, in Colombia, available ideally (for me) in mid to late February or if you can only arrive later than this, she will be stored at a friend’s place, a short 300km bus ride from Bogota.
Arizona, USA registration = meaning it IS EASY to register the bike legally in your name in the Arizona, USA. It IS possible to do this remotely with neither the bike, nor the buyer, nor the seller being in Colombia, nor in the USA. I will gladly explain this to anyone who is seriously interested in purchasing this great machine. Clearly if you and I are both in Colombia at the same time, all the better.
If you don’t know the XR650L, then Google is your friend, but in summary: It has been built since 1993, celebrating 25 years this year, with very few modifications: It is a XR600 dirt-bike steel chassis with the NX650 Dominator aircooled, carbuettored, electric start motor. The classic big air cooled thumper! They’re popular in North America and Australia. I don’t think they were imported into Europe. It is not a XR650R kick only aluminium framed, water cooled Baja 1000 racer!
By the time she reaches Colombia, she’ll have around 35000 miles on the odometer.
Regular oil and filter change every 2000 miles. Same intervals for valve clearance check.
Recent new rear wheel bearings and swingarm and suspension linkages re-greased.
Both tyres (Metzler Sahara Enduro 3), 140/80/18 and 90/90/21 are near new at the moment. They’ll each have 4000 miles on them by February.
Chain and sprockets: Front: Fritz (better than OEM) 14 tooth, rear 45 tooth, DID o-ring chain will have around 6000 miles on them. Chain lubed every day. Not adjusted yet since fitting 2000 miles ago.
Good mechanical and cosmetic condition. The black colouring on the side panels in the pictures is only from the soft panniers. This will easily polish out.
Modifications and extras: Bark busters (incorporating front turn signals), Acerbis 20 litre translucent tank, FMF silencer (lovely fruity sound!) including carb jetting for this exhaust, steel braided brake lines front and rear, technical rack with rear brace for soft luggage, 4mm aluminium bashplate, standard tool kit, spare brake pads and wheel bearings front and rear. As it’s not a California bike, it doesn’t have all the eco stuff bolted on.
I’m not desperate to sell the bike. I have a great fondness for her and am very happy to store her in Colombia for a future South/Central American trip or ship her to my home in Europe.
Asking for US$ 2750 o.b.o or equivalent in Great British £ or Euros. Contact me via private message or email through my website: Home The Bright Stuff dot Com
Just to reiterate, it IS possible for a non-US citizen to obtain a 100% legal title/registration/ number plate remotely (neither the bike, nor the seller = me, nor the buyer need to ever set foot on US soil…) for this bike in Arizona, USA. I will assist with this. These only costs around us$30, plus courier fees to/from the US for the paperwork.

Reason: Correction: Rear sprocket is 45 tooth, not 44 as originally posted.

Your observation skills are outstanding! They're all taken (with the exception of the one with the Cordillera Real background ) at the Hostal Estrelita in Cusco, a good value establishment still run by the 2 pleasant old fellas. I believe they're trying to sell the place. .

It's already for sale "without gear". So we're already 50% on the way to a deal. What is your "price range"? "o.b.o" means or best offer. Make me an offer? We're discussing on a public forum!! As requested in the advert, an email or private message is appreciated.

Hi Julian
Yes I was intending to pass through Ecuador but as mentioned in the advert, my very much preferred option is to sell the bike in Colombia around mid/late February.

The bike is no longer for sale. I've decided to keep her. You might spot Engelberta in the 'Stans in the (northern hemisphere) summer.
