Galway to N.Africa
Hi, starting in Ireland(Galway),am looking to plan a short 3-4 week trip to N.Africa via Spain.Probably late summer or autumn 2006.
Bike is 1994 Yam.xt400.
Have no experience of this kind of trip which is sort of the point. This is to give a taste of long distance/RTW type travel without having to sell the house/dog..
Border crossing, ferries, camping or other means all add to the experience.
So anyone interested can contact me,I would welcome the input. No experience necessary!

Hi man, I went solo down to Gibraltar this summer, from Tullamore.Route was Roscoff-Andora-Pamplona(for the running of the bullss-MAD)-Madrid-Toledo-Sevile-Jerez-Tarifa (most southerly piont in Europe;ferries to N.Africa)-Gib- came back up the east coast of Spain to the Tallest bridge in the world at Millau.
Was 6,900ks round trip and I was away for 3 weeks.
I have a good campsite guide to Spain if you want to BORROW it.

Hiya,
Our club (based in Pembrokeshire, Wales, over the water) is taking a number of North Africa novices to Morocco the 3rd and 4th week of August (see other thread). We cross the Atlas off road and then those who want get some sand tuition and then, for those we want we do the whole traverse of south morocco off road...
Check our website for details
Why don't you join us? We're a club...not a business!

Hope you don't take this the wrong way, but the first thing that you will need is a full licence. Provisional licence is not valid outside the state. If you were to be stopped anywhere by the cops and they realised this you will be finding another way home. The reason I mention this is because 70% of irish riders are on provisional licences.

Hiya,
Well, our club sorts out all the border formalities but we cannot help with no licence. Can't think for a minute that our Irish friend hasn't thought of that though! Having said that, the only place where I've ever had my licence checked was in the UK!

Thanks for the replies and yes I am a full licence holder. My lack of experience really refers to long distance travel etc.
Still undecided whether to go alone or in a group so may give Kevin99 a buzz sometime to pick his brain.

Hey yamr6
noticed you are from Galway. I am planning a trip around Ireland and Scotland in July and beyond.
was wondering if you had any tips for the trip ie places to go etc cheap places to stay.
I am from Australia and will be arriving in London on the 19th july will then hopefully pick up an old Africa twin or similiar and head off into the blue.
any tips or ideas would be great.
if you havent left for Morroco by then i could maybe drop into Galway and have a look around
if anybody else has any suggestions any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
regards
Guy Sambrook
