Longwaybackhome from Korea to Europe starting end June
Good day,
End of June I am taking the Dong Chun ferry from Sokcho, South Korea to Vladivostok and heading west towards Europe.
Depending on how things develop I am planning to do a detour through the Stans as well. Have all visas arranged and time until end August.
I am traveling alone and would appreciate some company along the road.
Anyone out there with a similar schedule / routes?
Look forward to hearing from you.
BR,
Longwaybackhome

Good day,
Latest schedule received from Dong Chun Ferry is departure on 5th of July from Sokcho to Zarubino. Will take an earlier one if possible.
Anyone out there with a similar schedule from Vladivostok to Habarovsk and heading west?

Sorry I am not out there to join up with you. But good luck with the trip. Do you have a blog? I plan the same trip in 12 months time so would love to follow how you get on.

I'm planning to leave Australia early July 2011 freighting bike to to South Korea and then Russia / Mongolia / Russia / Stans / Iran? / Turkey? /Europe. I'm still in the early stages of planning and would be happy to exchange ideas and info and maybe interested to ride some of the way in company. If your happy lets exchange ideas. It would certainly good to team up with someone at the beginning. If your interested Email me.

Change of plans
Monday 5th of July ferry to Zarubino is cancelled. Next ferry to Zarubino only Monday 12th of July and my bike is ready and I am more or less ready to go!
Option to take the Vladivostok ferry on Sunday 4th and take the chance that the customs clearance goes smoothly...

Hi Flyingdutch
Yes I may well be interested in travelling with some one especially for the first half of the trip. I'm planning to take about 6 months in total over my travels and to do it on an old KLR650 which I currently own and am comfortable with. Budget wise I'm planning a middle of the road trip - enough money for some hotels etc, no desire to camp out absolutely everynight or have to scrimp and save all the time but happy to camp out regularly and no desire to go from one good hotel to another. My start date is currently planned for 1 July 2011 but can be a bit flexible either way.
My plus points are I'm a very experienced road rider and a good bike mechanic and am easy going. My downside is I'm an inexperienced dirt rider. Having said that I'm trying to build this experience up over the coming year and whilst I think I'll end up competent I'll never be great in this area- definately more Ewan McGregor than Charlie Boorman.
I've got some motorcycle travel experience around Australia and a fair bit of non-motorcycle travel experience elsewhere - but not Russia or Mongolia where experiece is limited to a very long transit stop at Moscow Airport in 1983 courtesy of a cheap Aeroflot flight.
Anyway thats some very basic info about me - if you think I sound compatible drop us an Email or a PM.

In Vladivostok
Good day,
I am now in Vladivostok at a hostel right now and tomorrow the customs will test Yuri Melnikov and myself and we will test them with the bike clearance.
Will probably leave on Wednesday / Thursday (subject to clearance of course...). Anyone around?
BR,
Andrej
