Morocco Christmas/New Year 2014/15

Seeking 1 or 2 riding buddies for a predominantly off road trip in Morocco. I’ll be on a BMW X-Challenge. The links in my signature tell a few bike trip stories. This will be my 5th trip to Morocco. Some details are at Morocco TBSdotCom

Apart from the obligatory trip round and through the dunes at Merzouga, I’m hoping to spend most of my time south of the line Marrakesh/ Ouarzazate/ Zagora, an area I’ve not visited before.

The bike is currently parked near Gibraltar and I’m flying there and back on 19Dec14/05Jan15. The bike will stay in Spain for an Easter 2015 trip through Portugal. Being a school teacher (and having booked the flights a long time ago…) these dates are unfortunately non-negotiable.

Are you planning something like this too? Maybe drop me a PM/ email (see my website) or reply here.

Ride safely.

Hello Chris!

Well, I am expecting a child and I don't want to leave my wife alone, so no ride adventures for me for a while. But I've just moved near the Gibraltar area and I will be available for a when you were here. I can even host you for a few days if you need it.

All the very best for your impending parenthood. Beer sounds great. Let's liaise closer to the time. I should be OK ref accommodation with the friends where I've parked the bike, but if there's a change of plan in that respect, I'll gladly take up your offer. Many thanks.

Oh yeh, the bike is in La Linea. Where are you?

Hi Chris,

Im flying into UK on the 5th Dec to collect my bike. I have a small suspension job that im getting done at Rally Raid to sort out my suspension for a trip down to Cape Town. Your timing is almost spot on with my arrival to Morocco.
Id be keen to catch up. I to have done my fair share of morocco because I spent a season there driving overland trucks around it.

Regards

Patrick

Hi Patrick
Words like Rally Raid lead me to assume KTM690 for your trans-Africa trip. (Edit: Read your London/CT thread and I'm right ) It'd be great to catchup/ chat before Morocco. I'm in West Yorkshire, about 200 miles north of London.

cheers
Chris

Sounds good. Rally Raid is I think 66miles north of Heathrow Airport so I wont be far away? As I said John (rally raid) is going to get it sorted for the heavier weight bike. Should only take a couple days?
PM me your details would love to come chat!!

Cheers
Patrick

PS yeah went the 690 after much thought. I wanted a 990 but thought bit big and heavy for this trip!!

135 odd kg of light bike will be far superior to a big rig like a 990 when it's time to ride the interesting stuff.

Sent you a PM

Great Pat.

I'm going out for some Yorkshire/Welsh mud plugging on my DRZ for a couple of weekends between now and mid December. Should be great prep for dry piste/ hamada/ sand... (Not!)

See you in December, inshallah.

Cool. If you're still in Morocco at the end on December, maybe post here.

It's quite possible that Patrick (patdavey78) and myself will ride together. 2 options are clockwise or anticlockwise around the High Atlas.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
