South Africa by Land rover
Anyone out there got a good route to South Africa WITHOUT A CARNET I'm well traveled and law abiding but living in Spain but owning a UK plated Land Rover I could do without the bother of a Carnet de Passage
Thanks Mike

Hi Mike,
I'm pretty sure that you need a carnet for South Africa itself (unless you plan to permanently import the vehicle there, which is a nightmare I'm currently going through myself). As such, I'm not sure that you've much option than to get a carnet? Maybe if you register the V5 at a 'friendly' UK address in your name and then get the carnet from the RAC based on that, it might not be too much hassle.
Cheers - Andy

carnet de passage
mikerixom,
I'm sure you'll need a carnet in more countries you'll pass ( a doc. showing where carnets 'officially' are required).
In the Netherlands this carnet was issued by the ANWB (the dutch AA), but since september 2005 this 'service' is now done by it's german sister-organisation ADAC. So you're not obliged to get it in the country where your vehicle is registered.
The pages concerning the carnet are in English, Français and offcouse german, lots of information/fees etc.
For more info/questions you can mail to: carnetdepassages -at- adac -dot- de (in english, france or german).
Maybe the spanish RACE does the same but my spanish isn't good enough.
buenos recorridos
