Sudan Visa from Cairo - situation Dec 2009
Hi
I today have just been issued my visa for Sudan from the embassy in Cairo
so I thought I would post my experience here to help others.
Yes - it did indeed take one day! I applied with my Saffa passport (called a green mamba) but
there was a British chap there and he also got his in one day.
You need to go to your embassy and get a letter of introduction / invitation before you apply.
Don't even bother if you don't have this form - but all of the embassies in Cairo know the story
about this so it won't be a hassle.
Once you have this letter you go to the embassy.
Get there early, before 11 as they take the applications in the morning and process them in the afternoon.
You arrive and queue for the application form.
To get the form the dude wants to see the letter of invitation and you passport.
You complete the form and then there is a dude with a photo-copier in the foyer.
He copies you passport and the forms and charges 2 egyptian pounds.
Then you queue again and hand in your application which is checked and after 10 mins you queue again to collect the application which has now been scribbled on
You collect all of this and then you take the application to the payment counter.
They take payment (100 USD) and they annotate this on the application.
Then you queue again and hand it all in again for processing.
You then have to come back at.3-30 pm to collect it.
Note that the form does not ask for a duration or any dates and they issued mine with one month validity starting from application date.
This whole process is basically for raising revenue and I don't think they even look at the passports in any detail.
Any other questions send me an email.
