Where is the KLR 650 sold?
Hi I live in england and have been researching bikes for my trip...
I really like the look of the KLR 650 seems just right for what I want after reading and watching a few reviews. I know they arent sold in the uk (Im from London).
Does anyone know if they are sold in europe? The only places I know they are sold are in America and Australia?
Look forward to your replies
Thanks
Rob

Not in Europe: people just laugh at them, and old timers like to tell you how they had a bike just like that back in the day....
They're available in Ecuador, I believe--at least, the cops ride them. And I saw a brand new KLR250 in a dealership in Costa Rica, so probably there, too.

As already said, you won't get these on sale in Europe (new), ever again.
The overall reason is that Europe leads the world in regulations for the control of vehicle emissions.
In practical terms, this means that mass produced motorcycles, i.e. any sold in commercial quantities, need to be fitted with modern fuel injection systems and catalytic converters in order to meet the present, and future, regulations.
I believe there are some exceptions made for bikes produced in small quantities (and maybe for those around 125cc and smaller) - someone else may be able to clarify this.

Where is the KLR 650 sold?
They are definitely sold in Ecuador, not only to cops but to anyone who pays double the price at which they are sold in the States. You can find KLR650s in Ecuador in Kawamotors (Quito) I don't know about other places in there +/- 11,000 usd.
I also saw they were being sold in Panama for about 7,000 usd.

The KLR 650 C model was sold in Europe up until the late naughties (correct me if I'm wrong) The A model is still on sale in the USA/Australasia and apparently Ecuador. Actually the C model was in many ways a better bike than the A, as it had stronger suspension and better brakes. If you can find a used one of those, they'd make a fine overlander but you'll definitely have to change the tank.
KLR650 FAQ
I've seen some French dudes give the KLR C model the supermotard treatment and it looks quite cool.
For my 2 rupees, I've owned a A model for the last 10 years and it has rarely let me down in 30,000 miles of overlanding torture. I've pulled 2 XR's out of the Sahara and seen off burning KTM 990's and snapping BMW frames.
Mind you it needs some prepping before serious overlanding can be considered.
I did try to buy parts for it in the UK/Europe and all I could come up with is WeMoto for some spares. Different story in the States.
