can I fit a kickstart to an XT 600 E?
..if so how?
and what parts will I need?
I am fed up having to pray my battery is up for it every time I go green laneing
It's far too heavy to bump start on my own so a good old fashioned kick start would be the answer..any ideas??
Cheers
Carwyn

I know you can and I've been considering it myself , but its an easy £200 in parts alone, and the instructions I can find are only in German.

I wouldn't be looking for £200!!!
Half that would be more than enough - It's a doddle to fit too.
The only thing is you wouldn't have the de-compressor (because the electric start bikes don't have the mechanism fitted) but it's not a big issue.

How easy is it to fit? I imagined it would be a big strip down job? Could you write up a guide, maybe get it stickied on here?

Reallistically how much do you expect to spend?
The bits are here if you want them - You could have a kicker by the weekend!!!
Bear in mind there's the mechanism AND the clutch cover AND the kicker itself.
If you can get it for less than £100 let me know....

Hmm so if I ride to leeds on my XT600E with say £100 in my pocket would I be able to leave the same day with a kickstart version of the XT600E?

You want me to fit it too???
That's extra (LOL)
It's a half hour job. If you have a gasket or if the old one stays intact.
Seriously it's a piece of piss to fit. I could post it and tell you over the phone.

I think to fit a kick start to the 600e you will need to get the crankcase machined where the shaft comes through the previous casing just had a rubber bung not so on the XT600e There are some pics on one of the German sites.

You don't if you have a kicker casing - It's already there.

My 1997 XT600E has what appears to be a plastic bung where the kickstart is supposed to be and under it machined into the cover it says kickstart, seriously it can't be that simple , surely Yam didn't just remove the kickstarter itself and leave the mechanism inside?

You're funny!
And what do you suppose I do with an electric start casing:confused1:
Give David Lampeth a ring for a quote, he will be able to give you the real value of the bits.
