Summer HUMP
Horizons Unlimited Mendip Party
South West mini-meet
August 30-31, 2008
Good friends Gabriel Bolton (Baron Bolton) and Charlotte Moore (Charlotte Goose) are organising a camping weekend.
Each are planning their own Round-The-World trips, starting early next year. Their growing obsession with the trip, overland travel, and their bikes (XR650L, DR350), has led them into a love for HU and now an attempt to host an event!
The ethos behind the weekend is an utterly informal, spit and sawdust overlanders meet.
Why Come to an HU Motorcycle Travellers Meeting?
This is your opportunity to meet the people who will encourage you in your craziness, share their experiences and advice on how to do it, and maybe you'll meet them again in Tegucigalpa or Timbuktu!
On the road now? Preparing for the big trip? Stop in at the Meeting - you'll meet loads of other travellers. Swap information, share stories, give advice and make new friends!
The Plan
The plan is simple.
Friday: Show up any time after 4:00pm, pitch tent, and crack into a pint of local cider. Sit by the camp fire. Saturday: Wake up to the smell of Somerset manure and get the gas stove going for breakfast. Break the ice. Off – road bias ride out. Presentations from mid-afternoon through to evening. DIY BBQ. Sunday: Exchange emails and GPS locations, say farewells. On-road ride out to breakfast venue.
Location
The meet will be held in farmland in the heart of Mendip. South of Bath, in Somerset. More details to follow on registration.
Facilities
...and we use the word in its loosest form!
There will be a marquee to keep the rain out of your flagon of cider, portaloos for the obvious, but no showers or hot water.
There will be cold water for drinking, washing oneself, and washing ones camping implements. Certainly more rustic than Ritz.
Plentiful supply of local cider.
We also aim to provide industrial scale BBQ facilities.
There will be no catering facilities beyond free use the BBQ, but there are plenty of options for food locally. Farm shops, pubs and supermarkets will have all you’ll need.
Cost
The event is completely free.
We will however require registration and we will be limited to 100 people.
One favour... we have paid for everything out of our own pockets and your donations over the weekend would be greatly appreciated.
Registration
To register please email Gabe and Char using the the link below;
baro...@live.co.uk
What we need for each person attending:
1) Full name. 2) An indication (and only an indication) of whether you will turn up on Friday or Saturday 3) Whether you are interested in the ride outs (and which one, or both!)
Once we have received your email we will reply with a confirmation which will need to be shown on arrival. The confirmation will include specific location details, and an invitation from us for you to be part of our information wall. Feel free to email us with any suggestions or queries about the event, and the locality; pubs, B&B’s, shops etc.
We look forward to meeting you there!
