Sorry - I'm not much help, but I've been researching contacts/arrangements for doing the same thing, but to purchase a bike in Chile.
If you want any Chilean data contact me on:
claymore61_2@hotmail.com
Otherwise let me know how you do!
Alex.

I'm from US. Bought a KLR650 in Santiago. Simple. Registered it there in my name. Chilean plates. Need to get a RUT(social security number there) its free and easy to get. Once you have RUT, go buy a bike. You can't believe people who say you can't do it. They haven't tried. Anyone can Email me and I'll give you more details such as people who will help get the RUT.Also have dealer email who has good supply.

As a native Venezuelan, I would advise against this plan of action for the following reasons:
1. Cost --> Any good bike will cost a lot more than it's equivalent in Europe or the US, because of import tariffs.
2. Hassle --> Venezuelan customs is notoriously iffy and you could face delays and/or additional "facilitation" costs...

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
