Chile in next September
Hi all !
I'm very new to this forum ;-)
My name is Brice, I live in Geneva (CH).
I'm working in astronomy.
Next september/october, I'm going to
the Cerro Paranal observatory in northern Chile. After my duty there, I'd like to rent a bike and ride through Atacama, Lauca national Park, up to the borders of Bolivia (maybe La Paz too if I've got enough time).
I'd like to know if there's a way to rent a reliable bike (XT600?) around Antofagasta / Arica / Calama and bring it back to the same point.
I've seen on the web one renting agency but in Osorno, which is too far away ! I'd like to concentrate on the North of this beautiful country (I have been in Patagonia in last March, simply amazing !).
Do somebody has an idea ?
What are the common prices for renting
a bike in Chile ?
Thank you very much for your help !
Kind regards,
Brice

Hello Bod,
I don't know if you can rent a bike in northern Chile. You probably already contacted MotoAventura in Osorno. A good friend of mine, named Rafael Sanz, knows Roberto Baum, who owns Motoaventura. I know Roberto has offered Rafael to rent his bikes in Santiago before. Maybe he can move it further north? give him a call: 56 64 249121, or cell phone 09 8838811
If he asks where you got the number, tell him Rafael Sanz gave it to you....you may even get a discount
Cheers,
Ricardo

Hi Ricardo !
Many thanks for the hint ! I've been in contact
with Motoaventura. Unfortunately the price for bringing the motorbike from Osorno to Antofagasta and back is too expensive...
Gonna choose another transport :-(
Kind regards,
Brice

Hi Bod,
Bad news for you: The only serious bike rent company here is Motoaventura.
Sometime others try to go in the rent business, but have no success.
Maybe a solution is to buy a used bike in Iquique (free port, used bikes very cheap) and sell it again. Maybe someone in Paranal can help you to sell the bike.
Be glad,
