Bike to Bike Intercom?

I will be riding from Ohio to B.A., Argentina, for approx. two months, with one other rider. We are considering a bike to bike intercom. Does anyone have experience using these. The VOX technology seems really cool but pricy, is it really worth it or is PTT sufficient? How well do they work? Does adapting the long range two-way radios work as well as the Autocom and Starcom systems? Etc... Any and all kinds of input are welcome. Thanks.

Hi Jared,

My husband and I bought a bike-to-bike 6 months ago, after I broke down (again!) and hubby (driving ahead) did not notice for a loooong time. Anyway, this is a very good buy. We have a range of about 7 / 10 kms which is more than enough. The radios work only by pressing a button (that can be attached to the handle bar) so you don't have to hear the swearing or singing of your mate all the way! I definitely recommend one for travelling. I recently went to France and it was so convenient when you need to stop, start getting lost: even if you are behind you can tell the person ahead where to turn....

Hi Maria,
What brand is your bike to bike? And where did you get it, thinking about it myself.

Hi Maria, Sandi & I are doing a trans-Africa trip, starting in September - we're also considering Bike-to-bike coms and would like to keep it simple - how did you power your system? Was any installation involved?

cheers

Hi guys, I bought my bike-to-bike over the internet (British company). I can't remember the website but I will dig the boxes i fyou wnat. Technical bit is very simple. You fix the headers and microphone (correct name?) inside the helmet very easily (permanently or temporary as you have option there), plug it to the radio and plug the radio to the handle bar button. The handle bar button can be installed with one of those scratchy band (sorry not sure of name in English!) so is removable. The radio is a bit bulky but fit ok in a pocket. The rnage is smallish (like 2/3km ) but you can extend to I think up to 7 /10km. It's illegal in the Uk but who's going to notice. Instructions for taht can be fin deaslily on the internet.
oops we're are being evacuated (I work near warren street explosion) will continue tomorow

Hi guys, to continue with my explanations above:
To get same bike-to-bike than me, I got mine from www.intaride.com
I got the Wintec A80 (also call intaride XL Pro in their website)
To increase power you can follow advice in www.446user.co.uk. Go in the technical forum and search for message title “Wintec 80 mod” posted on 25th april. Note these modifications are illegal in the UK 
Ha yes total cost around GBP300 if you get the full 2 radios (£125 each radio - 2 bikers = 2 Radios!) + batterie + charger …
Hope this help! It has definitely made things easier when I ride with my other half!
