Attempt at beating record Uk to Cape Town
A few friends and I have been looking into driving from London to Cape town for charity, w are in the very early stages, doing alot of research into if its even possible but have got to the point where we need advice from fellow travelers.
we have read about the record attempt in a fiat twin air, and depending on how they do we are looking into trying to beat them We want to know in your opinion whats the best route to take, we are looking at getting the ferry from Spain to Algeria and down through Niger and Nigeria and into Cameroon but we are very unsure as to How safe it is in Niger and Nigeria, we are finding reports of kidnaping and armed bandits using landmines, but were wondering what the situation is recently from people who have been there Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated |
Regarding Algeria/Niger: No, no, no. It all might change by the time you get going, but at the moment the answer is no, no, no.
You may not even find any current reports, because no one is doing it. There's a reason for that, so don't be led astray by reports from a few years ago. Regarding London to Capetown: of course. Have fun! Mark |
So if not algeria niger, what would be the best route?

I suggest using the newly-functional site search. If you're not willing to make the effort, neither am I. Your question is often addressed here, often answered, and often discussed at length.
Hope that's helpful. Mark |

Thanks for your input, Baluchiman. As it happens, I responded in the manner I considered most likely to help the OP, who requested "any help and advice."
Of course, maybe I got that wrong. I'd suggest that if you find my post lacking you are certainly free to respond to the OP in whatever manner you believe will be most helpful. Lead by doing. If on the other hand you're just here to criticize the responses of others, by all means have at it. Mark |
Hello Lynks,
:welcome: to HUBB. Be sure you'll find all the info you need for such an amazing trip. I don't know myself the region (beyond Morocco), but reading the news or this forum shows that the situation is getting very tricky there. Check out the Sahara Travel Forum and you'll find long debates about the region. It's actually looking quite like a geo-political debate due to the current turmoil, so think carefully your route. Happy travels, Esteban [MarkHarf, in general terms I always find your posts very helpful. As it actually happens now with both answers (especially the 1st one with a strong warning on safety). It's only the sentence "if you're not willing to make the effort, neither am I", that sounds hard being someone new to HUBB. It's difficult to master a site when you are new to it; well, most questions are welcome (although may not always be answered :innocent:). I guess that's what made Baluchiman to react, not the rest of these posts. So don't take it personal, we don't mean (at least me) to criticize your contribution, it's more a matter of "welcoming protocol" regarding a new member :thumbup1:. PS: "Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player" :stupid:]. |
