Balkans Trip in a RHD 4x4
I'm planning a trip to the Balkans this summer in an Australian registered 4x4.
Does anyone know if there are any issues with taking a right hand drive (non-European registered) vehicle through any of these countries? And would I need a Carnet for any of the following places? Ukraine / Moldova / Romania / Bulgaria / Macedonia / Albania / Montenegro / Bosnia / Serbia / Croatia / Slovenia Also, where could I get insurance (2 months) that would cover me for these countries including the west EU? Many Thanks. |
Hi i run RHD Landrovers here in Bulgaria With no Problems, And have friends who run American registered Bikes with no problems. I am not sure about Insurance You will need a green card that covers Europe, this is normally from the country the Vehicle is registered in. Some of the none EU country's will except a green card as long as that country is listed on it and some will require you to buy local insurance at the boarder, if the vehicle is not registered in the Drivers name you will need written permission from the registered owner to drive it. I have to give myself permission to drive my land rover out side of Bulgaria as it is registered in my company's name.

Thanks for the info!

As for RHD vehicles in general, the only problem you might have, if you want to import the vehicle (for local registration). Some countries won't allow that at all.
But as long as it's still registered in the country where you're coming from and you're only travelling through the country, I'm certain none of those countries will give you hassle for being RHD. You'll hardly find these countries as restrictive as OZ. /M |
Romania and Ukraine definitely no problem.
Driven in both several times many countries offer insurance at the border but you could try posting here for specific country information http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/trip-paperwork/ |
I think you shouldnt have any problems with that.
and you should stop in Slovenia for a bier |
Cheers for that! I'm about a week away from starting the trip, so that drink would go down a treat as it will be the end of the trip for me!
