fuel price - anybody ?
Is anybody aware of a current and regular updated site which can display comparison fuel prices between countries?
I know it is easy enough to find this info for Europe or US but what about the other countries of the world? In particular I need to know diesel price in Columbia (South America). Currently in Panama but shipping my truck into Columbia next week and as I can hold 170 litres of fuel it is significant to know the best country to fill up in? any ideas ? Phil. |
Heya Phil,

Hey Phil,
Most shipping companies will want you to have an "empty" tank before they'll let you ship it. "Empty" I believe is considered less than 5 liters. I've been keeping track of gas prices along the way, and I'm just a little ahead of you now (in Ecuador). If you go through dangrec.com you'll find the price from the US to Ecuador and I'll continue to post future countries too. From memory, Panama and Colombia were reasonably similar in price... I think. By the way, Ecuador is CHEAP! $1 USD / gallon for diesel! ye-ha. -Dan |
venezuela - cheapest?
Hi Dan
Thanks for the info, yes you have overtaken us now! We have just had couple weeks in Venezuela (gorgeous) and fuel there was easy to obtain (away from borders) and we paid $1 (yes one US dollar) for 135 litres! i think that comes in at about $0.007 per litre. We are currently in Bogota but heading rapidly into Ecuador as we have a house to care for during month of june there. Having some issues finding tyres at moment! i'll flag a fresh post up for that and see what comes back. take care. keep having fun. Phil. |

I did sent yo some info on tires did you see that? |
Hey Phil,
I rememeber when I crossed the border in to Ecuador (at Tulcan) there were quite a few good looking tire stores on the road from the border. I don´t know if you need something exotic, but they looked to have a good selection. Ecuador seems to be quite a ´vehicle´country - lots of good mechanics, places selling parts & oil and tires. Cheap too. On the main roads into Quito I also saw a ton of ¨Bridgestone´service centers that looked as clean and well run as anywhere in the world. Hope that helps some. -Dan |

How did you find crossing into Venezuela? Read somewhere you have to buy a years insurence which costs a fortune. Is it true?

fuel price update SA 2010
just to keep this updated . . .
into COLOMBIA 0.89374 Oct 2010 (gone up) into VENEZUELA 0.00578 Nov 2010 (gone down) into BRAZIL 1.27574 Dec 2010 phil oh and a ps . . . .. insurance for Venezuela. If they insist on you buying insurance then the only option is a 12 month policy which would have cost us approx $250. Luckily they still accepted my paperwork ! |
phil,
did you post those figures also at that german based website? This will help to get a more global picture. Adventurous greetings, Coen |
I paid about US$30 for a month's insurance in Venezuela, entering from the south at Santa Elena de Uairén. Don't know whether I got a valid policy or not, since the agent couldn't find any record of the existence of my (very ordinary) KLR, so she entered a different year to get the policy to print out. I told her a friend had passed through there just a month earlier with the identical bike (true), but this didn't seem to help.
Hope it's fun out there. Mark |
