Getting to Cape Town
I need a bit of advice.
I am considering an overland journey from Ireland to Cape Town this summer. However, due to conflicts and political unrest it looks as if getting into Egypt with a jeep is nigh on impossible. Going through Turkey/Syria/Jordan is out as is Sicily/Tunisia/Libya. Also, the ferry service from Iskendrun in Turkey to Damettia in Egypt seems to have vanished. Taking a ferry from Cyprus to Israel and then overlanding it to Egypt looked promising except the Sudanese will not allow you in if you have Israeli stamps in your passport. I cannot commit to the trip without knowing for certain I can get from Europe to Egypt as there is great cost involved before setting off. Does anyone know of a sure fire way of getting a toyota hilux and an Irishman from Europe to Egypt? Cheers, Bren. |
The east route is possible:
