Importation formalites Walvis Bay and Cape Town
Hi. We are shipping a Land Rover 110 from UK to either Walvis Bay or Cape Town in July 2007 (via Macs Shipping). Does anyone have any experience on how long it takes to get the vehicle actually on the road from the moment it lands in the country (does it take an hour, hours or days) to clear customs etc. Likewise does anyone know how we go about getting third party liability insurance in either Cape Town or Walvis Bay.
Thanks in advance |
Ian,
in February this year I flew my bike to Cape Town as temporary import. This was absolutely no problem on a carnet basis. In CT I had to get an appointment with the customs officer to have the chassis & engine no. checked against the carnet data. I had to wait two days for an appointment. There was no need to arrange a 3rd party insurance, because my own insurance covered Southern African states as well. Good luck! Hans |
Try Foleys
Hi Ian
I know that Foleys ship quite a bit of stuff to Walvis - they have contact with an agent there who does a lot of the foot work for them, then they collect. www.foleysv.com Give them a try for contact details Chris |
3rd Party insurance for South Africa and Namibia is included within fuel costs.
