Oops - don't want to offend anyone or split from anyone! But perhaps reading the whole post would have revealed this

Quote from me:-

'Keep it open to all travellers but with a 'car' orientation. But anyone who enjoys travelling camping can ccome I'd say.'

Dammit, everyone is so jumpy it's almost impossible to post these days ... all I want is to meet up with some people and this is the second time i've had people jump down my throat. And this time with capital letters and everything! I'm off to do some work, it's easier than posting on here ...

For my two penn'orth (having been at Billing) I go to Billing a) to meet overlander friends and b) to buy 4x4 and safari bits. Several of the overlander friends run 4x4 businesses, and are at Billing.

Ive often wondered about coming to a HUBB meet - when Im on the HUBB I seldom differentiate between 4x4 travel, m'bike travel, 2wd travel, donkey travel, whatever. We all chase the same horizon.

Frankly the only reason I havent been to a HUBB meet is that I work 6 and 7 days a week (teaching at a boarding school) and scrimp and scrape my spare days for my girlfriend and family - Billing is always in the hols, I can get parts and sand ladders and jerry cans and blah blah blah at Billing ... hence I go to Billing.

DOesnt lessen my support for the HUBB - Ive been on for a few years now!

Ollie... I'm SORRY!!!!

I REALLY didn't mean to upset you or even SHOUT... sorry--- I have a CAPITAL LETTER addiction..

Will my VERY PUBLIC apology make you feel better??? I really didn't mean to offend -- am I forgiven???

I just got REALLY UPSET when I saw that some 4x4 guys MAYBE feel that HU is 'only for bikers' - because that would be really sad...

Even worse is the thought that there might be a PARTY organised and we wont be invited, based on the number of our wheels!! : )

We ADORE 4x4 guys... as I have said... the party can only get better when you are around, cos you have all the lovely goodies that make overland travel so much fun!!

There are always MORE HU meetings planned --- [one in BRISTOL in AUGUST] why don't you just all hustle and show up en masse and lets all party together???

Or OBVIOUSLY if you guys can get together an event... just don't leave us bikers out!

CornishDaddy 21 Jul 2008 19:03

Ha ......

Well apology accepted ... but dont worry anyhow, it's not really warranted.

It's cool, I think to tell the truth we are both talking about the same thing, getting everyone out together, which was also what the orignial "complaint" was in this post. The only reason that it was given a 'vehicle' slant was because, as you say at other events it's mainly bikers. I don't think anyone would ever want to stop a fella hubber coming along to a bash.

But as I said I think I should take a back seat for this, because I have such restricted time I can't really do anything but restrict peoples options.

But how about this - any over landers New years eve party? Hmmmm. where, when, how, why? No idea ... but a thought ...

So, 2wd is only one step up from a donkey, eh? :innocent:

Well it's the campsite isnt it?

See the Ripley meet allows you to park your bike by your tent but if you're on four wheels you have to park in the car park. So that means no lording it over the tiny tenters from the comfort of your roof-tent, and frankly if I can't look down on those dirty bikers from the luxury of my canvas penthouse I don't want to go.

Or is it just that bikers are quicker at signing up than four-wheelers?

There was a little patch of grass where one could park your 4WD (well in our case an elderly Pug estate, does that count?). I think technically it was reserved for noisy dogs (we blagged in with a noisy 1yr old).

A fantastic traveler's weekend. Maybe a little bereft of cage talk – it would be nice to put more faces to names this end of the forum.

What a state of affairs!

Easy guys.....

This has been a highly charged forum in the the week I have been away!

I don't think the idea of a meet would be exclusive (as someone put it) for 4x4, having spent 2 years riding a bike around the world, I am very pro bikes. The idea was to try and get more of the 4x4s on the HUBB together as every year at Ripley there are only ever a handful present.

Living in the South, I reckon the south would be a great place to have a meet - but open to any ideas.

africanpete 29 Jul 2008 21:58

Yes to meet (I'll be in a 4x4)

Yes to South

Yes to dates

Yes to plains

I'll be watching this space....

Toby2 30 Jul 2008 11:47

Keen to meet up, would have liked to have done the hubb meeting but have 4x4, have 1 year old toddler and have relatively well behaved but large dog. Understand completely about difficulties with loud dogs, loud kids, large 4x4s but don't want to end up relegated to some tarmac in the car park. Would be good if where ever is chosen has enough space so can be a distance away if that is general approach to kids / dogs / 4x4 but still reasonable pitch so that family harmony can be maintained.

If all the 4x4 people can bring some SHOWERS in their roomy luggage areas... then us bikers can borrow it, to get clean... EXACTLY why we would love MORE 4x4s to attend the meets! :funmeteryes:
