Multi country self drive with "hired" jeep
Hi HU folks,
First of all a big compliment for all the extremely valuable information each of you guys posts here restlessly. It has been a gold mine for my travel research. I have a question though and hope someone might have experience with it. I have a contact in Egypt (I live in Cairo) who could transform a standard Land Cruiser into a travel jeep (second tank, water tank, 2 spare tires, GPS, etc). The deal would be the following. I buy the car from him an pay an extra collateral for the car. He would then help me to get a carnet. I can then go on and travel as long as I want, however, at the end have to bring back the car and sell it back to him (and get my collateral back). My question is, did anyone ever hear about someone who did it this way? What do you think in general about this idea? I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have a guess about a fair price? Many thanks in advance for your replies! |
You can also travel with a rental car, when the owner did some paperwork:

My suggestion: buy the car (i hope a used one), obtain a carnet (local automobile club) and look who offer you the most money when you return. Surfy |
Have to agree looks like heads he wins tails you lose . better off with Surfy,s suggestion . :thumbup1:
