Seat covers?
Hello all,
Off on our long drive down Africa very soon and I'm wary of burning our behinds on the super heated grey leather of my LC 80 - can anyone recommend good heavy duty seat covers? Thanks Lucie |
you will get them made somewhere for a fraction of the cost here
I found a towel was good! as even cloth seats get sweaty...unless you have air co! Graeme |
Been through all sorts of seat covers over the years - towelling, canvas, fleece (natural and synthetic) and the sort of cover that comes out head and shoulders above anything else are the beaded massage type a'la Indian mini cab drivers for about £10 off ebay.
We use them in an over heated land rover cab (air con - what's that?) with plastic seats for long trips round the Sahara and they really do work. The beads keep an air gap between you and the seat, cutting down on the heat rashes you get from long driving days in a sweaty cab Its a bit like wearing socks with sandals - once you try it you'll see the light and won't care what people think! |
Seat Covers
Hi,
May sound berserk but I've used sheepskin in hot climates. Natural properties of wicking away perspiration I assume made it really comfortable. One things for sure leather is better to look at than sit on when it's hot:( |
There is another thread from a year or so ago on this as well so have a quick search for seats covers ;-)
" beaded massage type a'la Indian mini cab drivers" Yip, I used some and they were great, but they keep falling apart with all of the getting in an out. Though mine were only held together by nylon fishing line type stuff. Really good ones would might be stronger. You can find a trail of black wooden beads all over West Africa as they slowly fell onto the floor and then out the door ;-) |
My vote is for sheepskin - I've used one for years and it's still going strong.:thumbup1:

I used canvas in East and Southern Africa - easy to clean, tough, lots of built in pockets make them a practical storage aid (pocket between drivers legs, seat sides, large pockets on backs) etc. Never tried beads - maybe next trip.
