Shipping TLC France - Central and South America
Hello
We go from france to central and south america in september for one year at least. we just bought a 1999 Toyota land cruiser hzj 75 with 96 000 kms. we are preparing it ... what would be the best place to ship it in central AND in south america ? for example, where there are little problems with customs, paperwork, etc ... and cheap. any info about shipping welcome, even contacts if some have done it already :-) thx, b. rgds, happy trails |
Vincent, hello from west France - it is warmer here, and the people more friendly :) :)
The answer to your question is Chile. Very little fuss at customs. Simon |
east coast
thanx
the only problem with chile : it s on the west coast. coming from europe, the east coast of americaz would be more convenient. a friend of mine (working at the FFMC) has a container full of 20 competition bikes or + stuck in chile for weeks because of paperwork (no problem for importing them from france into chile but problems to export them from chile to their home country - france) ! i ve heard chile is quite hard with customs but ... |
Hi,
It would be advisable not to ship your car to a Brazilian port. Due to customs and their red tape We have shipped our Landcruiser last year from Malaysia to Buenos Aires, Argentina. You can read all steps and actions on this page about Argentina. I hope this helps... Coen |
thanx
thanx, excellent
full of details and contacts. we are still searching where we ll "land". just like you, we found out that brazil is "difficult" the "coolest" country seems argentina mexico difficult also french guyana same even if we re french. so in the north, usa could be an option. no problem here in france to find a reliable serious shipping agent. the problem is in buenos aires. via the french shipping agents we received different infos from different shipping agents in BA who could take care of the vehicle there. are you happy with your shipping agent there ? CMA-CGM ? W had the same info for CPD, not compulsory everywhere in south central america but so hepfull in BA for the shipment. so we ll take it. same info also for insurance. we ll take one at the borders or on arrival when it s compulsory otherwise we ll seat on it. thanx a lot again :-) very nice of you. |
A couple of suggestions.
We shipped to Mexico from the UK with only a few problems.
See PanAm 2006. We shipped back from BA to Europe booked thru a very helpful French agency (highly recommended). See PanAm 2006/7. On a Grimaldi ship you can accompany you vehicle this can help reduce theft. Going into BA, because you accompany your vehicle it is far more like a land border than a shipping transaction. You can be out of the port in a couple of hours with a Carnet. See PanAm 2006/7. |

Note also that you cannot leave the container in the docks for to long, or else you are going to pay a lot of money. Usually 4 or 5 day's is ok, depending which port or country... Grimaldi is another option, if you have time to spare. Some people with only half a year time, won't be spending 30 day's on the ocean... |
mailking : thanx for the precisions
my english vocabulary is limited but i understood you :-) in fact, we think we ll use an agent in BA to take out the car from the baot/harbour/customs. sandra from dakar motos is helping us : she can do the customs and she s willing to recommend us the most suitable agent for the boat/harbour take out. doing by ourselves, i m not sure ... :-( but congratulations to deal with all the paperwork and people there ! see http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...os-aires-33838 zenslo, thanx also, i ll have a look at your experience via your nice website happy trails |
