Tanzania to Nambia
Hi Guys
I Just wondering if you think it is possibale for me my wife and 3 kids to drive from Tanzania to Namibia on a budget of aroud 10,000 Euros we have our Land rover discovery 300tdi and a converted sankey trailer that are all kitted out so the money is for shipping flights and traveling i.e fuel food ect and visas we will be mostly bush camping where we can. Thanks Gary |
Hi Gary,
I'm planning a similar trip, Cape Town to Nairobi up the East coast, then back down to Cape Town along the the West coast (also in a Land Rover 300tdi). Just wondering if you have had any progress with your plans, and whether you could give any advice on equipment etc? Cheers, Charlie. |

I can confirm that $100 a day is a fair estimate for on the road expenses ie fuel, border costs, accommodation (lets say 80% camping), food etc. Limited sightseeing ie game parks. That was for two adults though.
However, it seems to me that if you are planning to ship the car back Nam to Tan and fly home that's going to eat up a large part of your budget. Sorry I have no idea what those costs would be but if you can establish those and them work on say $120 per day for lets say 6 weeks (to make the trip worthwhile). That's around 4000 euro. You may get better value if you plan a round trip and bring the car back yourself saving the shipping/flights. You could plan a nice trip going via Zambia (north road) in one direction and via Zambia (east road then into Malawi) the other. It really depends how much time you've got. If you can spend 3 months that's what I'd do. |
Thats good to hear we are going to leave the car in Nam for a bit and then return to switzwerland do some work get some money then return and carry on traveling this is no problem for us as my mother in law works in Nam.

Remember that Nambia is a country where the CdP is required and so you have a limited time there. Also check of it is allowed to leave a foreigner vehicle in the country when you are away.
Good luck man. |
