u.k to s.a. in a nissan micra crazy
Planning my trip but just wanted to have a bit more of an adventure and save a bit of cash. I found a nissan micra for £130 its in ok condition and is up to the distance and cheap to run! I plan on going down the east coast the easyest way I've heard. Anyway any advice on prep? maps? do you think I will need a carnet the value isn't much do you think its worth it?

You'll need a carnet, regardless value.
I would mount grips at the corners so you can carrie it out of trouble. I think it's a bit ... ambitious |
Fantastic... the trips been done in a Double Decker red bus before so your little micra won't have to many problems.
A carnet is needed for Egypt and further South. Get the African Adventure Atlas (from Amazon) - very good map of the whole of Africa. Carry two spare tyres and twice a day check the radiator esp. during desert driving. The rest should be easy!!! See you on the road.... ------------------ www.bigsky-adventures.com |
At that price you can get satisfaction when it breaks down! where were the matches again!

Get a Carnet, Get a couple of water and fuel cans, Getting handles on corners would be a good idea - and a good long tow strop/rope, cut some lengths of suitable wood (for sand mats)to the width of the boot or use a light roof rack to carry longer lengths and light gear.
Then Get in and Drive.....Nice One. Cheers, Gipper |
What type of roof tent are you getting? http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif

Some years ago there was a one make rally trophy in Portugal that used Micras, they were quite standard with only safety equipment like rollcages, a few bolt-on items to the engine and shocks. They were very tough and usually never broke down, even on the majority of stages being dirt.
