The EdF round here in Brittany had a whole load of the 4x4's, but they seem to have disappeared recently, I guess all sold off. The ground clearance doesn't seem bad on the standard though, I'd guess with different tyres it wouldn't be bad.

When did they stop making the R4? I thought it was early 90's? The perk of the C15 would be the fact they only ceased production 4 years ago, so spares should be available.

Admittedly you would need more motivation than practicality to go for a R4... but what a car! I don't think spares would be a problem in SA judging from their past prevalence. You could also nestle in the bosom of local enthusiasts, so to speak.

But yes, C15 - a good van.

observing from the saddle of my motorcycle for the last 11 months in central and south america (Colombia, Equador and Peru till Lima), i definetly would take a toyota hilux pickup. They're everywhere! And toyota dealers all over.

It seems as common as an enfield in India. well not that common, but close...

Definitely, every year at the school I used to teach in then students would raise money to equip one and then head off in convoy to Morocco for a rallye raid, distributing school equipment as they went. It was called the Quatre Ailes, a French pun.

Sorry I am late to the party, but I choose Toyota Hilux or landcruiser HANDS DOWN! They are plentiful. Parts are easy to come by, and rarely would you need parts. My buddy actually just flew down and bought one that was half way kitted the way he wanted and took off. When he was done, he gave to a very grateful family and flew home.

hello there im quite settled on the idea of a c15 i have had a look on south americas ebays (or something similar at least) and there are plenty for spares i should think!!! now my attention goes to the preparation im gonna be building a bed in the back and some space for storage auto of wood!! so its gonna add some wheight af around 150 to 200 kg!! now to my quiestion does anyone have an idea if its needed to upgrade suspension or got some better tyres for south america!! i wnt to get a bit of the beaten track but not to much!!! thank you!!!
