Cameroon road conditions
Hi everyone,
Know this has been discussed before but can't seem to find the thread. I'm sure we've read that the infamous mud road in Cameroon now has a bypass route of asphalt lying 50km's or so to the east. Can anyone confirm if this is right?? Saves us trying to time a whole West African route around one tiny short dry spell! Cheers, Dave:thumbup1: |
Hi Dave - planning another trip?
What vehicle are you planning to use this time? |
Hi Martin,
On our way to South Africa in a 4x4 sprinter this time. Gave her a wee test drive on the M'Hamid to Foum Zguid piste in Morocco and was very surprised at how well she performed on deep sand and rough track - didn't expect much from a van...... Still planning our route but hope to start getting visa's soon. What about yourself? Dave:cool4: |
Watch the reports of the travellers who are there currently:
Trans-Africa: Gerade Unterwegs... Thomas has reported in another forum, that these road parts are almost fixed now by chinese workers. His blog shows that picture - look at the stones who filles the holes. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-g7eT6z4U6x...0/IMG_5738.JPG The car before isnt a 4wd. When you leave the maintrack you will find wonderful hard offroad tracks - when you stay on the maintracks it seems to be an easy job. Surfy |
cheers Surfy will check out his site

It's true, the infamous road from Ekok to Mamfe is now passable even during the rainy season and I think even a 2WD car can handle it! Around 25 km are already paved and the remaining 35 is on a flattened dirt road.

Whats bad when we travellers get more options than using 4x4 also in the rain time? Not anybody likes that much offroad.
You can choose near any track who leave that well known track - to get a good offroad challenge there - if you look after that. Its a real offroad paradise in cameroon :thumbup1: Surfy |

Except for 30km the newest tar road in West Africa :-) The other 30 km is easy a d just fun. Did it 1..5 months ago with a 1200 adventure.
Get dirty as long as the rubbers are touching surface. Cheers Richard |
