Thanks for drawing attention to that: Cliff Richard had much the same concept for his Summer Holiday!

The routing of the Pillocks was a classic of it's time; in 2011 I looked into the cafe in Istanbul (can't remember the name right now!) where people got together and cut deals for travelling further East - there were still messages on the (physical) board in the cafe from those days.
The internet has put paid to all that.

That's always been my problem - thinking too small :rofl: While the "Pillocks" were off on their busman's holiday in 1969 this is what we were doing:

A borrowed minibus, a rented caravan and few leftover fuzzy snaps doesn't really stack up well against the romance of the hippy trail and the mysterious east.

I well remember watching Summer Holiday with open mouthed awe when it came out in 63 /64. That was the spark that got me heading for Greece - as soon as I could find a girlfriend that looked like Una Stubbs :rofl:
