CDP to Permanent Import

Hi All,

Great forum! It's been really helpful!

I'm planning to take my bike from France to Australia, first on a temporary carnet with a working holiday visa - but this could potentially turn into a longer-term residence..

Will there be any problems converting my temporary CDP into an actual import?

https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/ gives all the info.

I dont think you can convert a CDP, check the conditions on the CDP about returning the vehicle to the country of origin.

You will need a residency visa of some description though. We went from CDP to import in about 4 weeks for both our Land Rover and Trailer. Quicker, easier and cheaper (by 50%) than extending the CDP for a further 12 months!
