Clarification needed - Registration
Hi folks,
I just got an offer for a Tenere which is registered in WA (I'm in NSW). Apparently it is possible to change the registration in my name even without an address in WA? Is this true? I'm just temporary in Oz (WHV for 1 year) and wont have an address anyway soon. Thanks, Frank |

"Theoretically" the Australian States agreed to insist on using 100 points of ID when ownership of a vehicle changed about four years ago. Which means that generally you have to prove who you are and where you live - it does n't seem to be enforced 100%, so you might get lucky. Its usually quite hard to prove who you are over the Net as original documents have to be sighted - passport, bank account, rent receipts, utility bills, etc. Do a weblookup on 100 points of ID Australia to get a full list of acceptable documents.
Another step is to find out how much it would cost to register the bike in NSW - no doubt they will take as much money off you as possible - road worthy test, probably stamp duty on the sale, some sort of new vehicle registration fees. Do a weblookup on NSW RTA. Whatever you do make sure that you have a REVs (Register of encumbered vehicles) check done, as it has been common for people who owe finance on a vehicle to sell it interstate and leave you with the finance bill. NSW RTA website has all the details you need about buying a vehicle. |
If you need an address in Perth, you are welcome to use mine.If you would like me to check out the bike, and help that way, is fine too. My only problems are that I work on a minesite, and have limited time to do stuff.
Best you give me a ring, and we'll see what can happen. PM me. Let;s get this happinen! Cheers, Boot. |
