Fuel distance
Hi there,
I'm sorry, but I seam to be unable to find anything with the search, and I call myself a geek, pfff.... Anyways, my question is: How far is it in between petrol stations/ pumps/ anything that hast petrol between Darwin and Perth. I got a small bike with an even smaller range of around 250 km. Will I run dry and die? :oops2: Any numbers are highly appreciated. Cheers Tim |
fuel distance
Hi Tim
You havent indicated which route you will be taking but I have included links that show "strip maps" of the highways from Darwin to Perth via the west coast. There will be others on the web site for you to search. "Perth to Port Hedland" "Port Hedland to Katherine" "Elliot to Darwin" You will see the distance from each fuel stop. Sometimes there are other road houses in between the listed fuel stops, sometimes not. Back in 1994 I rode a GSX750 down the west coast and fell short of a road house by about 2km. That same strech of road now has 2 additional stops in between. It looks like you may have to strap a small can on the back if you only have 250k reach. Hope this helps Marty |
As a rough but free starter just type 'Petrol Station' into Google Maps and you'll get an idea of where the stations are.
Using the directions feature with markers and you'll get a more accurate distance estimation. |
"Usually" there will be signs advising "Next Fuel at xxx Kms" -
The sign says it all picture by Roger_Martin - Photobucket http://i478.photobucket.com/albums/r...stralia155.jpg The photos were not taken on your proposed route. Best to have fuel range of at least 400kms, I've turned up at odd places only to find them closed or waiting for a fuel delivery. |

as you know fill up at every opportunity, Here are known fuel stops 300km range may be needed in some places. Darwin to Adelaide River78k (visit Daly waters Pub) there after Pinr Creek 117k Katherine91k turn right for Victoria River 215k Timber creek 91k Kununurra 227k or lake Argyle Village 227k Kununurra to Wyndham 60k to Fuel not far but not worth it. Kununurra to Durham River 106k Turkey Creek (Warmun)111k Visit the Bungles got an off road bike 260k there and back to Warmum or see if there is a tour. Warmun to Halls creek 160k Fitzroy Crossing (see the river gorge) 290k Fitzroy to Willare 217k Willare to Broome 179k#### Broome to Sandfire 323k fill up at Roebuck Plains 34k from Broome this is still 289k. Sandfire to Pardoo 139k Pardoo to port Headland 143k. Want to visit Spectacular Karinjini? Head south towards Newman Fuel at Munjina(Auski Roadhouse) Auski to Karinjini return to Auski 250k 20-120k is gravel if you want to see all the gorges. From Auski there are three ways to go I would go back to Port headland 250k then go down the coast road though nowhere near the water. or Auski down to Newman 195k or Auski through Karinjini to Tom Price 195k tom price to Paraburdoo 80k Paraburdoo to Nanutarra270k. If you go back to South Headland and fill up it is 190k to roebourne then 50k to Karratha 104k to fortescue River then 161k to Nanutarra. ### Nanutarra to exmouth via Giralia staion 276k but there should also be fuel at Barradale 71k south of Nanutarra before the turnoff to Giralia/Exmouth. I wouldn't miss Exmouth or Coral Bay but if you do it is 231k Nanutarra to Minilya and Barradale should have fuel ask someone along the way. Minilya to Carnarvon 139k after that there is fuel every 150k. Just dont miss any. Watch the weather, dont ride at night, watch for Cows sheep and Kangaroos Tony Wray. Perth W.A. |
thanks a ton, thats spot-on what I need

You shouldn't have any problems. Generally 150km range will be good enough but have a look at the statistics page at www.planitearth.co.uk and it will show everywhere that I filled up and how many miles between.
