which state did you buy it in ? It changes from state to state . If you look in a copy of lonely planet it should tell you. As i rember & it might have changed you need a road worthy certificate (RWC) each year in NSW . In Qld you need one to sell a car/bike dont think they were needed in SA & cant remember the rest . I was last there in 2000/01 things may have changed .

Nah, nobody checks any MOT or whatever-certificate upon import. If it is a temporary import, your bike has to undergo a technichal check and afterwards the foreign rego is fed into the computer of the local licensing office. You do NOT have to obtain a local Oz rego, although some of the bureaucrats at the licensing office try to talk you into it ;-o

The officer at the Perth technichal check even wanted to weigh and measure my bike. I just told him to study the carnet details and consider that as containing ALL necessary information and nothing more. Fortunately not all people are like that...

In Oz a local bike only has to undergo a kind of MOT when a new owner acquires the vehicle. After that no more (unless sold again). This is actually quite cute, because most Ozzies customise their bikes heavily - and nobody ever checks whether this affectes the roadworthiness :-)

Depends on the state.

True for Western Australia and Queensland.

Anuall inspections for NSW and Victoria. The rest?

Cough ... Err this depends ... on the person who has the power to do the checking .. and the momentary political pressures ..
For instance .. extra seats fitted to 4WDs in Queensland were attracting hundereds of dollars in fines .. issued by police officers beside the road to out of state vehicles .. they wanted you to have it inspected (in youyr state that might be 2,000 km away) and the number of seats noted on the rego papers .. and if you changed the seats in either direction to get it inspected again.. fortunatly I think they have droped that particular stunt now. But any police office could suspect your vehicle as not being road worthy and have you prove it (at your cost and time).
