Has anybody had problems importing their car/bike into Oz and the wood that they may have on roof rack or in shelving in the rear?
Should I be avoiding wood in the prepping of my vehicle, or will it be no problem? Cheers. |
Don't know about cars, but regarding motorcycles we would not recommend to use any wood when bringing your bike into the country due to Australian quarantine regulations. We were told that there is a huge fee for fumigation if you do so - for that reason we used a metal crate for transportation.
For quarantine information check out the following link: http://www.affa.gov.au/index.cfm Maybe you would like to send an email to aquis and they will give you further information. Have a good time in Australia - we absolutely loved it! Hanka & Erik Quote:

fumigation = expensive and only relevant if you're keeping the crate. we paid 80 ozzie dollars for 60-70kg of wood to be "deep buried".

Hey there
I think that you are refering to timber that makes the roof rack and the cupboards in your vehicle? If so this should be fine as long as there isn't any borers in it. That is what they are looking for. I work for a company that sends heavy machinery all over the world and it is always packed in crates but is treated before it leaves the factory in France. Yes send a email to them and ask but I don't think you will have a problem. Cheers Dingo |
As already said, it shouldnt be a problem as long as the wood is free of bugs, we brought in our LandRover complete with home made plywood storage boxes, plywood on the roofrack even a plywood partition we made up in Malaysia for RORO shipping and some wheel chocks we cut from a plank in India with no problems.
