Round the block!
 

Hi all.
I'm riding up to Broken Hill from Canberra in late June/early July for a business meeting for a few days.
I'm thinking about taking a couple of weeks off and heading north to Darwin then take the long way home via Broome, Perth, Adealide, Melbourne . . .
Riding a 2005 Blackbird.
Anyone interested in catching up somewhere along the route - or coming with me?

Mick I can't join you but that sounds like a lot of fun. I also ride a Blackbird and those open speed limits in NT sounds like the perfect place where the Blackbird can be let loose.
I know that sustained periods of high speed eats those rear tyres much more than normal. Last year we did a quick lap of Queensland "5000km" and I trashed a rear tyre and chain. Watch out for the Roo's
Travelling by yourself is just as much fun if you stay in country pubs and mix with the locals.

Had to leave early and cut the trip short because of work.

Left home on Saturday 24 June and cruised through Sydney - Scone – Condamine – Blackall – Mt Isa – Tennant Creek – Alice Springs – Cooper Pedy – Port August – Broken Hill – home.
10 days riding – 6,778km – 401.45lt of petrol cost $617.38.

NT Roads
 

Notice the difference in the roads in NT, they certainly know how to build a decent road out there. Good to hear all went well have you planned the next one yet?

NT roads were the best, but no corners :(
I've got a square back tyre.

Thinking of trading in the Blackbird for something more appropriate late next year to do the Oodnadatta track or similar.

New bike
 

After I get back in September from our Canada US trip I will be trading the Blackbird in. Yet to work out the exact replacement but I have a few short listed to try out.
What replacement have you got in mind Mick?

BMW R1200GS Adventurer - maybe :thumbup1:

Next bike short list
 

R12GSA or Suzuki DL1000 or CB1300 with knobbies. Ok so the knobbies are bullshit but they are all possible contenders. It will be hard to give up the HP of the Blackbird but it will make me slow down and take in the scenery. Under 2 weeks 'til I leave for my trip!
